The season’s eighth week schedule includes two performances of Akhnaten by American composer Philip Glass. The week’s first performance happens Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 7:30 p.m. The week’s second performance is slated for Friday, Nov. 15, at 8 p.m.
The eighth week’s performances count as the opera’s second and third performances at the Metropolitan Opera. Akhnaten’s Metropolitan Opera Premiere took place last week, on Friday, Nov. 8.
The 2019-2020 Met Opera season’s eighth week continues performances of two operas by Italian opera composer Giacomo Puccini (Dec. 22, 1858-Nov. 29, 1924). La Bohème receives one performance. Including the season premiere, Le Nozze di Figaro receives 15 performances during the 2019-2020 Met Opera season. Beyond the season premiere, four additional performances are offered in November. The 2019-2020 Met Opera season’s performances of Le Nozze di Figaro revive staging by Sir Richard Eyre. The English film, opera, television and theatre director’s staging debuted Sept. 22, 2014, as a new Met Opera production in the opera house’s 459th performance of Le Nozze di Figaro.
Sir Richard’s production team comprises Rob Howell, set and costume designer; Paule Constable, lighting designer; Sara Erde, choreographer.
Sir Richard’s production was most recently staged during the 2017-2018 Met Opera season. The 2017-2018 season’s staging marked the second revival of Sir Richard’s production. The 2019-2020 Met Opera season’s performances represents the production’s third revival at the Metropolitan Opera.
The 2019-2020 Met Opera season’s eighth week offers the month’s first of two Sunday matinees. No performances are scheduled for the next day, Monday, Nov. 11, 2019.
The takeaways for the 2019-2020 Met Opera season’s eighth week are that the week launches the season premiere of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and continues performances of Glass’ Akhnaten, Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice and Puccini’s by Philip Glass and also continues performances of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice and Puccini’s La Bohème and Madama Butterfly.
