Out of Sight, Out of Mind on Magnum PI Applies to Haha Kiekie Delissea

Summary: Out of Sight, Out of Mind, season 5 episode 9 Sunday, April 16, 2023, on action drama television series Magnum PI applies to Haha Kiekie Delissea.

Haha kiekie delissea as a Hawai'i County and island endemic (from Greek ἐν δῆμος, “in [its] people”) historically, traditionally abides as understory vegetation in Acacia koa forests and on the bottoms and slopes of old volcanic craters. One simple-leafed, tall-trunked flowering, fruiting, leafing, seeding plant by the 20th and 21st centuries abided amid Hawaiian myrtle (ʻōhiʻa lehua, Metrosideros polymorpha) trees in the Puu Waawaa (from Hawaiian pu’u wa’awa’a, “hill [many-]furrow[ed]”) Forest Reserve cinder cone. Another three abide in a remote crater on Kamehameha Schools land in mauka Kona, Hawai'i (from Hawaiian mauka kona ha wai 'i, "mountain[-ward] leeward [side] breath life-force supreme") island. Fruits accumulated from the latter trio acquired a storage home, perhaps among Hawaiian myrtle trees, in the Harold L. Lyon Arboretum, for Dr. Harold Lloyd Lyon (Oct. 14, 1879-May 15, 1957), of the upper Manoa Valley of Oahu island, Hawaii state (from Hawaiian mānoa, "huge, vast"; o'ahu, "gathering place"); Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, 19:27, image of Metrosideros polymorpha in Harold L. Out of Sight, Out of Mind, season 5 episode 9 Sunday, April 16, 2023, on action drama television series Magnum PI, applies to Haha Kiekie Delissea endemic to Hawaii County and island.
The 9th Magnum episode of NBC television season 2022-2023 and the 85th episode overall, by director Jay Hernandez and writer David Slack, broaches what remoteness bodes. Magnum PI concerns the closed doors behind which a psychiatric hospital conducts mental care even as plant conservation considers the near-extinct leechleaf delissea called haha kiekie. No common and no local names officially designate Delissea argutidentata (for southwest France-born Jacques Delisse, May 13, 1773-March 13, 1856; from Latin argūta dentata, “clear-cut toothmark”).
Leechleaf delissea and oha (from Hawaiian ʻōhā) emerge as respective common and Hawaiian, local name for the related Delissea rhytidosperma (from Greek ῥυτίς σπέρμα, “wrinkle seed”).

Koa trees and their haha kiekie delissea understory historically, traditionally acquit themselves in volcanic areas of Hawaii island. They historically, traditionally act as native vegetation for such cinder cones as Puu Waawaa (from Hawaiian pu’u wa’awa’a, “hill [many-]furrow[ed]”) and such volcanic cones as Puu Huluhulu (from Hawaiian pu'u hulu, "hill hairy"). They historically, traditionally adapt to Puulehua (from Hawaiian pu'u lehua, "lower hill") summit and southwest and west Hualalai (from Hawaiian ka hua la'i, "the fruit calm" via Hualālai ); Sunday, June 11, 2017, 08:48, image of "This is a group of Acacia koa managing to grow despite being surrounded by lava flows on Pu'u huluhulu," central Hawai'i (Big Island): Alison Pockat, CC BY 4.0 International, via Wikimedia Commons

The article Rare plant thought to be extinct discovered on KS Hawai’i Island land on Kamehameha Schools website Oct. 10, 2022, furnishes the name haha kiekie.
The Cyanea (from Greek κῠᾰ́νεος, “dark-blue” via Latin cȳaneus) Hawaii-endemic (from Greek ἐν δῆμος, “in [its] people”) genus guards the name haha (from Hawaiian hāhā, “lobelia”). The above-mentioned Kamehameha Schools article hails Delissea argutidentata as having Cyanea-like appearances even as its unbranching tallness heralds haha kiekie (from Hawaiian hāhā ki’eki’e, “lobelia tall”). It identifies 30 keiki (from Hawaiian keiki, “offspring”) from 3 Delissea argutidentata inhabiting a remote crater in mauka Kona (from Hawaiian mauka kona, “mountain[-ward] leeward [side]”).
That propagation by Hawai’i County’s Volcano Rare Plant Facility jubilates haha kiekie delissea journeying no more like Out of Sight, Out of Mind on Magnum PI.

Mamane (from Hawaiian māmane, "attractive") trees and their haha kiekie delissea understory historically, traditionally adjust to volcanic areas of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa (from Hawaiian mauna kea, "mountain white"; mauna loa, "mountain long") in Hawaii County and island, Hawaii state. The haha kiekie delissea understory sometimes adopts semi-epiphytic (from Greek ἐπί φυτόν, "atop plant") arrangements on mamane stumps on the respectively dormant and subaerial (from Latin sub-, "under"; Greek ἀήρ, "air" via Greek ἀέριος and Latin āerius, "aerial, airy") volcanoes; Friday, July 23, 2004, image of Sophora chrysophylla habit, Pu'u Mali Restoration Area (PMRA), northern slope of Mauna Kea, north central Hawai'i (Big Island): Forest & Kim Starr, CC BY 3.0 Unported, via Wikimedia Commons

A dead mamane (from Hawaiian māmane, “attractive”; Sophora chrysophylla scientifically) stump kept the 3 haha kiekie delissea alive near an enclosure keeping haha kiekie delissea remains.
That area, tenant-fenced into three small enclosures, in 1971 lodged 3 haha kiekie delissea, whose survival, with damaged tops perhaps cattle-grazed, looked unlikely amid dense grass. The Puu Waawaa (from Hawaiian pu’u wa’awa’a, “hill [many-]furrow[ed]”) Forest Reserve maintained a haha kiekie delissea (1992-2002) amid its Hawaiian myrtle (ʻōhiʻa lehua, Metrosideros polymorpha) trees. The 2021-discovered trio netted 8 ripe fruits in 2021, for Lyon Arboretum storage and Volcano Rare Plant Facility propagation, and 12 in February 2022, for storage.
Overcoming opportunities that occasion Out of Sight, Out of Mind outcomes optimizes mental-health care on Magnum PI and wild survivals of haha kiekie delissea on Hawai’i.

Oha Koolau Range delissea admits a knoblet one-third downwards from its curved, 1.5- to 2.4-inch- (37- to 60-millimeter-) long flowers. Black-purple fruit and the small knob announce how delissea species appear differently, recognizably from Cyanea lobelioid species. Oha Koolau Range delissea appears differently, recognizably from the three other Hawaii-endemic delissea species (Delissea argutidentata, Delissea kauaiensis and Delisea rhytidosperma). The latter three appreciate near-straight, 0.55- to 1.02-inch- (14- to 26-millimeter-) long flowers; Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, 10:52, image of Delissea rhytidosperma of Kauaʻi, with Delissea's characteristic dorsal knob (center left): Karl Magnacca, CC BY SA 2.5 Generic, via Wikimedia Commons

The Tracheophyte and Angiosperm (from Greek τρᾱχεῖᾰ φυτόν, “windpipe plant”; ἀγγεῖον σπέρμα, “receptacle seed”) clade members possess enclosed seeds and mineral-, nutrient-, sugar-, water-transporting vascular tissue.
The Eudicot and Asterid (from Greek εὖ δι- κοτυληδών, “good two cup-shaped cavity”; and ἀστήρ, “star”) clade members quarter two embryonic seed leaves and star-like flowers. The Asterales order and Campanulaceae (from Greek ἀστήρ, “star” and Latin -ālis, “-related”; and Latin campāna -ula, “bell little” and -āceae, “resembling”) family members resemble bellflowers. Specimens, studied scientifically by Franz Elfried Wimmer (Nov. 30, 1881-May 2, 1961) and Harold St. John (July 25, 1892-Dec. 12, 1991), sometimes sustain 35-foot- (10.67-meter-) statures.
Anthropogenic transformations, grazing animals and invasive grasses threaten Puulehua summit and southwest and west Hualalai and south Mauna Loa volcanoes where haha kiekie delissea traditionally teems.

Haha kiekie delissea (Delissea argutidentata scientifically) advertises its Cyanea-genus non-membership and its Delissea genus membership with green-red knoblet one-third down from flower tops. It affirms itself, in its near-straight, 0.55- to 1.02-inch- (14- to 26-millimeter-) long flowers, as alike Kauai Delissea kauaiensis and Delissea rhytidosperma species and unlike Oahu Delissea subcordata species, with curved, 1.50 to 2.4-inch- (37- to 60-millimeter-long) flowers. Its fleshy, purple fruits agree with its green, short, small leaves and its 0.039- to 0.078-inch- (1- to 2-millimeter-) long calyx lobes. They ally apical fruits with broad, simple leaves atop palm-like, tall, unbranched trunks. Their semi-woody stems amass milky, non-poisonous bark that appeals to feral pigs and rats; Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, 10:52, image of Delissea rhytidosperma of Kauaʻi, with Delissea's characteristic dorsal knob (center left): Karl Magnacca, CC BY SA 2.5 Generic, via Wikimedia Commons @ https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Delissea_rhytidosperma_flower.jpg
