The Metropolitan Opera held the fourth revival of Australian opera director Elijah Moshinsky's 2000-2001 new staging of Giuseppe Verdi's Nabucco in the 2011-2012 season, after a non-performance interlude, spanning seasons 2005-2006 through 2010-2011, since the third revival's occurrence in the 2004-2005 season.
Elijah Moshinsky (Jan. 8, 1946-Jan. 14, 2021) debuted his new staging of Nabucco by 19th-century Italian opera composer Giuseppe Verdi (Oct. 10, 1813-Jan. 27, 1901) at Met Opera on Thursday, March 8, 2001. The 2000-2001 season offered nine performances of Moshinsky's new production. The Australian opera director had made his Met Opera debut Monday, Feb. 4, 1980, in the opera company's 153rd performance of Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera.
One season, 2001-2002, elapsed between the production's debut and its first revival. The 2002-2003 season's six performances of the first revival, which opened St. Patrick's Day, Monday, March 17, 2003, initiated three successive seasons of revivals of Moshinsky's production. The second revival opened Monday, April 5, 2004, with 10 performances in the 2003-2004 season. In the next season, 2004-2005, the third revival received 10 performances, with an opening date of Monday, April 5, 2004.
After the 2004-2005 season's third revival, Met Opera absented Moshinsky's production for six seasons, from 2005-2006 through 2010-2011. In the 2011-2012 season, the Moshinsky-directed production reappeared on the opera company's performance roster.
