The 78th episode overall, as the second fifth-season Magnum episode for NBC television season 2022-2023, by director Bryan Spicer and writer Gene Hong, broods brutal breakdowns. The Hawaiian archipelago likewise configures catastrophic crises concerning such keystone, quintessential components of cultural and geographical biographies as koa and ohia trees and taro root vegetables. Koa wilt (Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. koae), rapid ohia death (Ceratocystis hulohia, Ceratocystis lukuohia) and apple snails (Pomacea canaliculata) disable endemic koa and ohia and naturalized taro.

Gastropoda (from Greek γαστήρ πούς, “stomach [just above] foot”) class membership fits the foot and the head inside univalve (from Latin uni- valva, “one double-door”) shells.

Caenogastropoda (from Greek καινός γαστήρ πούς, “new stomach [above] foot”) clade membership groups excrementary opening and mantle cavity 180 degrees from the foot, toward the head. It heralds a one-auricle (blood-receiving, ear-shaped, upper-chambered atrium [from Latin ātrium, “entry hall”] appendage, from Latin auris -cula, “ear little”) heart and a single-paired gill leaflet. Architaenioglossa (from Greek ἀρχι- ταινία γλῶσσᾰ, “chief ribbon tongue”) freshwater-inhabiting, land-itinerating order members inspect, with hair-covered, mantle-entry, skin-thickened osphradium (from Greek ὀσφρἁδιον, “smelling”), gill-inflowing, prey-scented water.

Fire ants (Solenopsis geminata) alone afflict golden apple snails (channeled apple snails, Pomacea canaliculata). Perivitellins PcOvo and PcPV2 agree with them. They alarm potentially predatory amphibians, birds, crayfish, crocodiles, fish, insects, mammals, reptiles and turtles. Ampullarioidea superfamily and Ampullariidae (from Latin ampulla -oidea, ampulla -idæ, “two-handled vessel with swollen middle-resembling”) family memberships kindle amphibious (from Greek ἀμφί βίος, “both life”) lifespans.

Sexually mature Pomacea canaliculata (from Latin pōma -āceae, “apple-resembling”; and Greek κάννα, “reed” via Latin canālis -culus, “pipe little”) genus and species log 9.84-inch (25-centimeter) diameters. Their autumn- and winter-lowest, spring- and summer-highest reproduction rates manifest their clutches of 200 to 600 red eggs every three-plus weeks, for one- to two-week incubations. They navigate juvenile stages within 15 to 25 days of their hatching and, 45 to 59 days later, net two-month to three-year physical and sexual maturities.

The Breaking Point for golden apple snails, unlike for Magnum PI, occurs outside temperature ranges of 64.4 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit (18 to 25 degrees Celsius).

Four-year life cycles pass in brown, green, yellow, 1.58- to 2.36-inch- (40- to 60-millimeter-) high, 1.77- to 2.95-inch- (45- to 75-millimeter-) wide, 5.91-inch- (150-millimeter-) long shells.

Golden apple snails, quested taxonomically by Jean-Baptiste Lamarck (Aug. 1, 1744-Dec. 18, 1829), quarter a black- to white-brown, concentric, horn-shaped, thick opercle (from Latin operculum, “cover”). Females, who realize 10- to 20-hour copulations and 5-hour egg-laying, reveal, like males, at-rest tentacles repositioned under their shells; and mantle-residing, paired, tube-like, water-receiving, yellow-spotted siphons. Near-surface waters days shelter golden apple snails that fresh-vegetated land nights sustain with algae; dead insects; detritus; floating, microscopic, submerged vegetation; leaves; mollusks; phytoplankton; sap; zooplankton.

Golden apple snails trigger The Breaking Point on natural enemies, apart egg-taking fire ants (Solenopsis geminata), through protein inhibitors and toxins, and on treasured taro vegetation.
