Ellery Queen Appears Second Among Authors in Death at the Sanatorium

Summary: Ellery Queen appears second among authors in Death at the Sanatorium, Anglicized by Victoria Cribb from the Icelandic Hvítidauði of Ragnar Jónasson.

"God talks to human beings through many vectors: through each other, through organized religion, through the great books of those religions, through wise people, through art and music and literature and poetry, but nowhere with such detail and grace and color and joy as through creation. When we destroy a species, when we destroy a special place, we're diminishing our capacity to sense the divine, understand who God is and what our own potential is." Robert Francis Kennedy Jr., April 19, 2023, Boston Park Plaza Hotel, Back Bay, Boston, Massachusetts.

“And there’s many people out there who want us to move to the next planet already and I’m like, hang on, let’s not give up on this planet yet," William, Prince of Wales, July 31, 2023, Sorted Food food truck, London, England, United Kingdom.

Ellery Queen appears second among authors in Death at the Sanatorium: Mystery, Anglicized by Victoria Cribb from the Icelandic Hvítidauði (“White Death” [from tuberculosis] literally) of attorney, poet, professor, prosist Ragnar Jónasson.
The name Ellery Queen belongs to the book-collecting, deductive-reasoning, main-character, novel-writing son of the other main character, Inspector Richard Queen of New York City Homicide Division. It also concerns the series author even as that creator clusters the two writers, Frederic Dannay (1905-1982) and Manfred Bennington Lee (1905-1971), under that one name. The Dannay and the Lee names themselves actually respectively designate Daniel Nathan (Oct. 20, 1905-Sep. 3, 1982) and Emanuel Benjamin Lepofsky (Jan. 11, 1905-Apr 3, 1971).
The two cousins pseudonomously employed Ellery Queen (from Old Norse elri, “alder [Alnus glutinosa]”; vrá, “nook” via Elleray, Windermere, Westmorland and Furness, Cumbria, England) fall 1928.

Ellery Queen functioned as the entrant name for the two cousins’ mystery-novel submission to a writing contest under Frederick A. Stokes Company and McClure’s magazine co-sponsorship.
Their submission gained the two cousins the $7,500 prize even as magazine bankruptcy garnered The Smart Set magazine McClure’s magazine and generated a rejudged novel-writing contest. The Smart Set magazine hailed as contest-prize winner Isabel Briggs Myers (Oct. 18, 1897-May 5, 1980) even as Frederick A. Stokes Company helped the two cousins. Frederick A. Stokes Company initiated the detective series about and by Ellery Queen with the 1928-submitted contest entry published in 1929 as The Roman Hat Mystery.
Death at the Sanatorium jubilates Ellery Queen as an author whose name and whose book The Dutch Shoe Mystery join “Helgi’s Golden Age Reading List” (Death:vii).

Helgi Reykdal (from Old Norse hailaga, “holy”; reykr, “smoke”; dalr, “dale”) knowing about Ellery Queen kindles that author's in-text, second-place keepsaking in Death at the Sanatorium.
That liking lodges The Dutch Shoe Mystery as second-listed novel on front-matter pages, as third in-textually, after A Puzzle for Fools and The Roman Hat Mystery. The moniker Ellery Queen mustered novels and short stories until the death of Emanuel Lepofsky Apr 3, 1971 and, non-stop 1941 onward, Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine. A Fine and Private Place, published in 1971, 10 years after the first Ellery Queen Jr. novel, numbered as last novel in the Ellery Queen series.
Ellery Queen as a Golden-Age detective occurs in Death at the Sanatorium: A Mystery even as post-Golden-Age occurrences occasion no offerings of son Ellery Queen Jr.

Ellery Queen Jr., pseudonym of other authors picked by Emanuel Lepofsky and Daniel Nathan, perceived who produced what crime how, when, where, why without paternal participation.
Emanuel Lepofsky and Daniel Nathan quested other authors whose literary quintessence qualified them for the 30-plus crime-fiction and true-crime anthologies and collections under Ellery Queen editorship. They received the Mystery Writers of America Grand Master Award in 1961, from whence their pen name realized Micah McCall and Captain Tim Corrigan ghostwritten novels. Ellery Queen Jr. and Ellery Queen ghostwriters perhaps logically succeed pseudonymous Barnaby Ross crime-solving 1932-1933 with ex-actor Drury Lane and father-and-daughter team Inspector and Patience Thumm.
Helgi in Death at the Sanatorium and that mystery’s Jónasson creator respectively translated into Icelandic English-language Ellery Queen and Agatha Christie (Sep. 15, 1890-Jan. 12, 1976).

Two cousins, Daniel Nathan (Oct. 20, 1905, Brooklyn, NY-Sep. 3, 1982, White Plains, NY) and Emanuel Benjamin Lepofsky (Jan. 11, 1905, Brooklyn, NY-Apr 3, 1971, Roxbury, CT), account for their respective professional names as Frederic Dannay (1905-1982) and Manfred Bennington Lee. They account for the two-in-one pen names Ellery Queen, from 1929 through 1971, and Barnaby Ross, in 1932 and 1933;

‘Imiloa December 2024 Sky Watch Accommodates Four Moon Phases

Summary: ‘Imiloa December 2024 Sky Watch accommodates four moon phases and one hibernal, northern, winter solstice of one 24 hours’ shortest day and longest night.

The Prince Kūhiō Hawaiian Civic Club (PKHCC) moon calendar for 2024-2025, which provides such lunar information as moon phases and also farming and fishing recommendations, begins Nov. 1, 2024, and ends Oct. 21, 2025; PKHCC calendar honors Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole (March 26, 1871-Jan. 7, 1922), Kingdom of Hawai'i prince and delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives from Hawaii Territory's At-large district (March 4, 1903-Jan. 7, 1922): Island Nation Hawaii, via Facebook Oct. 6, 2024

‘Imiloa December 2024 Sky Watch accommodates four moon phases even as it acknowledges the hibernal, northern, winter solstice of the shortest day and of the longest night in one consecutively 24-hour stretch.
University of Hawaii, Hilo, Hawaii County (from Hawaiian ‘imi loa, “to search far”; ha wai ‘i, “breath life-force supreme”; hilo, “thread”) boasts sky-watching ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center. ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center calls the English-language month December the Hawaiianized month Kekemapa even as other culture conveyors such as the Prince Kūhiō Civic Club considers otherwise. Polynesian-ancestored Hawaiian culture anciently domiciled, traditionally domicile island-developed, island-diversified calendar-month names even as Kapiolani Community College of Honolulu, Honolulu County, Oahu island divulges two same-month names.
Honolulu area’s Kapiolani college (from Hawaiian hono lulu, “bay sheltered”; kapi’o lani, “arched heaven [= rainbow]”) expresses December as November-December’s one-month Makalu and December-January’s one-month Kaelo.

Kapiolani college’s Prince Kūhiō Civic Club calendar (for Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole [Mar 26, 1871-Jan 7, 1922]), figures Makalu and Kaelo (from Hawaiian ka, “of”; elo, “wet”).
The cool, hooilo (from Hawaiian ho’oilo, “to cause to germinate, to sprout”), rainy, wet-season, wintry grouping from last-half October through first-half April guards November-December and December-January. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2024, through Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024, have mahina hou (from Hawaiian mahina hou, “month fresh/new/recent”) the first new-moon phase of two such phases. Sunday the 1st, Wednesday the 4th and Thursday the 5th invoke mixed cloudy-sunny days whose nights involve new-moon moonlessness with perhaps mixed clear-cloudy, perhaps overcast-only, skies.
‘Imiloa December 2024 Sky Watch joins four moon phases whose new-moon nights, perhaps overcast, juggle cloudy-rainy-sunny days Monday the 2nd, Tuesday the 3rd, Saturday the 4th.

Full-moon Sunday the 15th, full-moon Monday the 16th, full-moon Sunday the 22nd, last-quarter Thursday the 26th, last-quarter Friday the 27th know sunny days, perhaps clear-skied nights.
Sunday the 8th through Saturday the 14th lodge as mahina hapalua mua (from Hawaiian mahina hapa lua mua, “moon half double first”) the first-quarter moon phase. Cloudy-, sunny-skied Sunday the 8th through Wednesday the 11th, Saturday the 14th and cloudy-, rainy-, sunny-skied Thursday the 12th, Friday the 13th perhaps manifest clear-cloudy nights. Sunday the 15th through Sunday the 22nd niche as mahina o hoku, mahina piha, mahina poepoe (“moon of star”; “moon full”; “moon round”) the full moon.
‘Imiloa December 2024 Sky Watch offers before two full-moon nights the sunny second, the sunny third of six sunny days for, apart first-quarter, four moon phases.

Cloudy-rainy-sunny days Tuesday the 17th, Thursday the 19th and cloudy-sunny days Wednesday the 18th, Friday the 20th, Saturday the 21st perhaps predict nights partially, permanently overcast.
Monday the 23rd through Sunday the 29th quarter as mahina hapalua hope (from Hawaiian mahina hapa lua hope, “moon half double last”) the last-quarter moon phase. Cloudy-rainy-sunny days Monday the 23rd and Tuesday the 24th and cloudy-rainy days Wednesday the 25th, Saturday the 28th, Sunday the 29th perhaps realize clear-overcast, overcast-only nights. The cloudy-sunny day Monday the 30th, the cloudy-rainy-sunny day Tuesday the 31st sequence a second new-moon phase, with perhaps clear-overcast, overcast-only moonless nights, for December 2024.
‘Imiloa December 2024 Sky Watch tributes as new, first-quarter, full, last-quarter moons four moon phases even as December 2024 tenders an end-of-month, second, two-day new moon.
