La Forza del Destino by Italian opera composer Giuseppe Verdi (Oct. 10, 1813-Jan. 27, 1901) receives nine performances in the 2023-2024 season. The new production's Metropolitan Opera premiere took place Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The second performance was held Friday, March 1, at 7:00 p.m. The third through ninth, closing performances are slated for Monday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday matinee radio broadcast, March 9, at 12:00 p.m. noon; Tuesday, March 12, at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, March 16, at 7:00 p.m.; Thursday, March 21, at 7:00 p.m.; Sunday, March 24, at 2:00 p.m.; and Friday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m.

Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Met Opera's Jeanette Lerman-Neubauer Music Director, conducts all nine performances, including the March 9 Saturday matinee radio broadcast. His conductorship of La Forza del Destino adds a 23rd opera to his Met Opera portfolio. The French Canadian conductor and pianist had made his Met Opera debut Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, in the opera company's 946th performance of Carmen by French Romantic Era composer Georges Bizet (Oct. 25, 1838-June 3, 1875).

Lise Davidsen appears in the first six performances, including the March 9 Saturday matinee radio broadcast, as Leonora, fatally stabbed by her brother in fulfillment of her father's curse. Her appearances in La Forza del Destino adds a sixth opera to her Met Opera portfolio. The Norwegian lyric dramatic soprano had made her Met Opera debut Friday, Nov. 29, 2019, as Lisa in the opera company's 72nd performance of Tchaikovsky's The Queen of Spades.

Lise Davidsen shares the role with Elena Stikhina, who sings Leonora in the seventh through ninth performances. Her appearances in La Forza del Destino add a third opera to her Met Opera portfolio. The Russian soprano had made her Met Opera debut Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018, in the title role in the opera company's 80th performance of Puccini's Suor Angelica.

Brian Jagde appears in all nine performances as Don Alvaro, whose reciprocated love with Leonora occasions Leonora's father cursing her. His appearances in La Forza del Destino adds a fifth opera to his Met Opera portfolio. The American operatic tenor had made his Met Opera debut Thursday, April 3, 2014, as Count Elemer in the opera company’s 53rd performance of Arabella by German late Romantic and early modern composer Richard Strauss (June 11, 1864-Sep. 8, 1949).

Igor Golovatenko appears in all nine performances as Don Carlo di Vargas, who fatally stabs his sister in fulfillment of his father's curse. His appearances in La Forza del Destino added a third opera to her Met Opera portfolio. The Russian baritone had made his Met Opera debut Friday, Nov. 29, 2019, as Prince Yeletsky in the opera company's 72nd performance of The Queen of Spades by late-Romantic Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (May 7, 1840-Nov. 6, 1893).

Soloman Howard appears in all nine performances in two roles as Il Marchese di Calatrava, Leonora's cursing father, and as Padre Guardiano, the Father Superior who provides the solitary cave requested by Leonora. The American bass made his Metropolitan Opera debut Oct. 30, 2014, as the King in the opera company’s 1,133rd performance of Verdi's Aida.

Judit Kutasi appears in the first six performances as Preziosilla, a fortune teller whose rejection of Don Carlo's assumed identity conveys to Leonora that her love, Don Alvaro, still lives. The Romanian mezzo-soprano made her Met Opera debut in the new production's opening night, Monday, Feb. 26, 2024.

Her appearances in La Forza del Destino adds a third opera to her Met Opera portfolio. The Russian mezzo-soprano had made her Met Opera debut Thursday, Sep. 29, 2022, as Sonyetka in the opera company's 22nd performance of Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk by Russian composer, librettist and pianist Dmitri Dmitriyevich Shostakovich (Russian: Дмитрий Дмитриевич Шостакович; Sep. 25, 1906-Aug. 9, 1975).

Patrick Carfizzi appears in all nine performances as Fra Melitone, who requires scolding from Padre Guardiano for such uncharitable reactions as unpleasant receptions of Leonora and of impoverished peasants. The American bass-baritone had made his Met Opera debut Christmas Eve, Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, as Count Ceprano in the opera company’s 736th performance of Verdi’s Rigoletto.

Mariusz Treliński (born March 28, 1962) directs the 2023-2024 season's new La Forza del Destino production. The Polish opera, theatre and film director had made his Met Opera debut Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, in the double feature of the Metropolitan Opera premiere of Tchaikovsky's Iolanta and of the debut of Treliński's new production of Bluebeard’s Castle by Hungarian composer, ethnomusicologist and pianist Béla Bartók (March 25, 1881-Sept. 26, 1945).

Mariusz Treliński's production team comprises Boris Kudlička, set designer; Moritz Junge, costume designer; Marc Heinz, lighting director; Bartek Macias, projection designer; and Maćko Prusak, choreographer. Slovakian set designer Boris Kudlička, Dutch lighting director Marc Heinz and Polish visual artist and animation director Bartek Macias had made their Met Opera debuts Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, along with their director in Iolanta and Bluebeard's Castle. German costume designer Moritz Junge had made his Met Opera debut Tuesday, April 14, 2015, in David McVicar's new productions of Cavalleria Rusticana by Italian composer Pietro Mascagni (Dec. 7, 1863-Aug. 2, 1945) and Pagliacci by Italian opera composer Ruggero Leoncavallo (April 23, 1857-Aug. 9, 1919), during the opera company's 671st Cavalleria performance and 713th Pagliacci performance.

Puccini's Turandot broadcasts March 16, 2024, as the 2023-2024 season's 15th Saturday matinee broadcast. The Saturday matinee radio broadcast of Franco Zeffirelli's revived production airs at 12:00 p.m.
