Nabucco by Italian opera composer Giuseppe Verdi (Oct. 10, 1813-Jan. 27, 1901) opens Thursday, Sep. 28, 2023, as the 2023-2024 season's first revived production. Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera opens Friday, Oct. 20, as the season's third revived production. The opera's nine performances occur as the second revival of the new 2012-2013 production debuted Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, by American theater and film director David Alden.
Tannhäuser by 19th-century German composer and librettist Wilhelm Richard Wagner (May 22, 1813-Feb. 13, 1883) opens Thursday, Nov. 30, as the season's fourth revived production. The opera's eight performances are staged as the 10th revival of the new 1977-1978 production debuted Thursday, Dec. 22, 1977, by Austrian opera and theater director Otto Schenk.
Met Opera's holiday presentation of The Magic Flute, an abridged, English-language version of Die Zauberflöte by Classical Era composer Wolfgang Mozart (Jan. 27, 1756-Dec. 5, 1791), opens Friday, Dec. 8, as the season's fifth revived production. Brown.
The season's 11th revived production, The Hours by American composer Kevin Puts (born Jan. 3, 1972), opens Sunday, May 5. Its eight performances constitute the first revival of the new 2022-2023 production debuted Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022, by English stage director Phelim McDermott.
Orfeo ed Euridice by German classical composer Christoph von Gluck (July 2, 1714-Nov. 15, 1787) opens Thursday, May 16, as closer of the lineup of the 2023-2024 season's 12 revived productions. The eight performances of the season's 12th revived production realize the fourth revival of the new 2006-2007 production debuted Wednesday, May 2, 2007, by American director, choreographer and dancer Mark Morris.
Three of the 2023-2024 season's 12 revived productions distinguish themselves with achievements of recentness or longevity. The 38th revival of Franco Zeffirelli's visualization of Puccini's La Bohème qualifies as the season's most revived production. The 1977 debut date for Schenk's interpretation of Wagner's Tannhäuser qualifies as the season's oldest production. The 2022 debut date for Phelim McDermott's vision of Puts' The Hours qualifies as the recentest of the season's 12 revived productions.

Australian opera director Elijah Moshinsky's production of Verdi's Nabucco, which debuted at Met Opera during the 2000-2001 season, reappears at Met Opera in the 2023-2024 season for its sixth revival, which opens Thursday, Sep. 28, 2023, as the first of the season's 12 revived productions: West Australian Opera, via Facebook Jan. 16, 2021

West Australian Opera. "Vale Elijah Moshinsky. Tait Memorial Trust January 15, 2021. Vale the great #Australian opera director @Elijah Moshinsky who sadly passed away today. He directed performances in the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, The Metropolitan Opera, #LaScala and the Royal National Theatre for over 30 years, and directed opera, theatre and television throughout the world. He won the Laurence Olivier Award three times and received Australia’s highest award: The Opera Australia Award in 2019. Elijah’s family fled Russia and sought refuge in Shanghai where he was born in 1946, before emigrating to Australia in 1951 and settling down in Melbourne. Elijah’s Year 12 results were outstanding, and he took up the scholarship at Ormond College, The University of Melbourne where he soon became involved in theatrical productions at the university. In 1973 he earned a scholarship to study at University of Oxford where his involvement in a production of As You Like It caught the eye of the Director at Covent Garden and he was offered the role of Producer for the Royal Opera. As a director of opera and theatre, Elijah is famed wherever his productions have been staged throughout the world. His television work has included the filming of operas, plays and works of literature. He has been involved in either the direction or production of works as diverse as Lohengrin, Samson et Dalila, The Bartered Bride, Much Ado About Nothing, Becket, Richard III and The Green Man."
