Summary: The 2018-2019 Met Opera season premiere of Il Trittico is Friday, Nov. 23, during the season’s ninth week.

The 2018-2019 Met Opera season premiere of Il Trittico is Friday, Nov. 23, amid continuing performances of Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de Perles and Boito’s Mefistofele during the season’s ninth week.
The 2018-2019 Met Opera season’s ninth week opens with the first of the week’s two performances of Mefistofele by Italian composer and librettist Arrigo Boito (Feb. 24, 1842-June 10, 1918). The week’s first performance of Mefistofele begins at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Monday, Nov. 19. The eighth week’s second Mefistofele performance happens Saturday, Nov. 24, at 8 p.m.
One week after Saturday’s performance, Mefistofele opens the 2018-2019 Met Opera Saturday matinee radio broadcast season as the first of 24 Saturday matinee radio broadcasts. Mefistofele’s Saturday matinee radio broadcast begins Saturday, Dec. 1, at 1 p.m.
The 2018-2019 Met Opera season premiere of Mefistofele took place during the season’s seventh week. The season premiere occurred Thursday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. The 2018-2019 Met Opera season’s staging revives Robert Carsen’s production. The Canadian opera director’s staging debuted as a new production Nov. 5, 1999, in the Metropolitan Opera’s 55th performance of Boito’s Faustian opera.
The 2018-2019 Met Opera season’s ninth week also continues performances of Les Pêcheurs de Perles by French Romantic Era composer Georges Bizet (Oct. 25, 1838-June 3, 1875). The Metropolitan Opera’s 2018-2019 season premiere of Bizet’s opera occurred Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m.
The 2018-2019 Met Opera season premiere of Les Pêcheurs de Perles occurred during the season’s eighth week. Bizet’s pearl fishing opera opened Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. as a revival of British opera director Penny Woolcock’s new production from the 2015-2016 Met Opera season.
The 2018-2019 season’s ninth week offers two performances of Les Pêcheurs de Perles. The week’s first performance takes place Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 8 p.m. The ninth week’s second performance of Bizet’s opera is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 24, at 2 p.m.
The 2018-2019 Met Opera season’s ninth week features the season premiere of Il Trittico by Italian opera composer Giacomo Puccini (Dec. 22, 1858-Nov. 29, 1924). Il Trittico premieres Friday, Nov. 23, at 7:30 p.m.
Including the season premiere, the 2018-2019 Met Opera season gives seven performances of Puccini’s trio of one-act operas. In addition to the season premiere, November hosts two performances. The month’s first performance takes place Monday, Nov. 26, at 7:30 p.m. November’s second performance is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 30, at 7:30 p.m.
The season’s four remaining performances are offered in the first half of December. The month’s performances take place Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 8, at 12:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, Dec. 15, at 8:30 p.m.
December’s first Saturday performance, Dec. 8, appears as the second of 24 Saturday matinee radio broadcasts in the 2018-2019 Met Opera season. Boito’s Mefistofele opened the Saturday matinee radio broadcast schedule Dec. 1. The 2018-2019 Saturday matinee radio broadcast season closes Saturday, May 4, 2019, with Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de Perles.
The 2018-2019 Met Opera season’s staging of Il Trittico revives Jack O’Brien’s production. The American director and producer’s new production debuted April 20, 2007, in the Metropolitan Opera’s 60th performance of Il Trittico.
The new production’s 2006-2007 season debut also marked the Met Opera debuts of Jack O’Brien and his production team. O’Brien’s production team comprises Douglas W. Schmidt, set designer; Jess Goldstein, costume designer; and Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer, lighting designers.
The 2018-2019 Met Opera season’s staging occurs as the second revival of O’Brien’s production. J. Knighten Smit and Gregory Keller are the revival’s stage directors. The first revival took place during the 2009-2010 Met Opera season.
The takeaway for the 2018-2019 Met Opera season premiere of Il Trittico Friday, Nov. 23, is that Puccini’s trio of one-act operas joins continuing performances of Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de Perles and Boito’s Mefistofele in the 2018-2019 Met Opera season’s ninth week.
