"God talks to human beings through many vectors: through each other, through organized religion, through the great books of those religions, through wise people, through art and music and literature and poetry, but nowhere with such detail and grace and color and joy as through creation. When we destroy a species, when we destroy a special place, we're diminishing our capacity to sense the divine, understand who God is and what our own potential is." Robert Francis Kennedy Jr., April 19, 2023, Boston Park Plaza Hotel, Back Bay, Boston, Massachusetts.
“And there’s many people out there who want us to move to the next planet already and I’m like, hang on, let’s not give up on this planet yet," William, Prince of Wales, July 31, 2023, Sorted Food food truck, London, England, United Kingdom.

Arctic buttercups avail author Naja Lund Aparico and illustrator Alex Nees yellow Seasons by the Lake: Adventures in Greenland, Dial Books for Young Readers, Penguin Random House imprint, Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
Arctic buttercups beautify the front cover, the first four pages to the summer-months section, the first page to the two-page authorial Postscript by Naja Lund Aparico. They cluster in moist, open, sparse meadows that configure acidic-soil pHs 4.5 to 7.5 and boulders such as those captured on the first two summer-months section. Temperate to arctic North America, Europe and Asia domicile them even as arctic buttercups, commonly designated as goldilocks and Greenland buttercups, dwell in coastal, lowland Greenland.
Their perennial ("through[out-the-]year-having"; Latin perennia [per annus -is]) existence epitomizes a 2-plus-year lifespan even as arctic buttercups ensure the matted or the solitary elaboration evidenced storywise.
In July 1821, after the expedition had reached the Arctic coast via the Coppermine River, "Richardson's Adventure With White Wolves" occurred, as depicted and described in F. (Frederick) Whymper, The Sea: Its Stirring Story of Adventure, Peril & Heroism, vol. I (1877-1880; page 189).
"They were now in the country of the Esquimaux, and exposed to frresh anxieties from the unfriendly feeling which exited between them and the Indians. Dr. Richardson, one night, whilst on the first watch, had seated himself on a hill overhanging the river; his thoughts were possibly engaged with far distant scenes, when he was roused by an indistinct noise behind him, and, on looking round, perceived that nine white wolves had ranged themselves in the form of a crescent, and were advancing, apparently with the intention of driving into the river. On his rising up they halted, and when he advanced, they made way for his passage down to the tents. He had his gun in his hand, but forbore to fire, lest he should alarm any Esquimaux who might possibly be in the neighbourhood" (page 190).:

Arctic buttercups feature an erect-base, 40-centimeter- (15.748-inch-) tall stem even as a 0.5- to 0.7-centimeter (0.19685- to 0.275591-inch) secondary bundle features after the early-primary root fails.
Each buttercup generates a lateral-extending, 26- to 35-centimeter (10.2362- to 13.7795-inch) rhizome ("root-mass-acting"; Greek ῥίζωμα [ῥῐ́ζᾰ -μᾰ]) going to 2- to 15-centimeter (0.787402- to 5.90551-inch) depths. Arctic-buttercup rhizomes have a bud-, node-, scale-like leaf-housing stem even as they host food-reserve materials and head their shoots and roots respectively soil surface-ward, subsoil downward. Ten-maximum nondissected to palmately-lobed leaves inhabit basal stems even as upper-stem leaves deep-divided into 3 to 5 narrow segments invoke filiform (thread-shaped"; Latin filum -fōrmēs) iterations.
Author Naja Lund Aparico and illustrator Alex Nees journey through Seasons by the Lake: Adventures in Greenland even as they jubilate spring-, summer-, fail-month arctic buttercups.
Arctic-buttercup leaf shapes know seasonal variability even as long, low, petulate stems keep 3 to 5 basal-stem, palmate, stem-kept leaves and kidney-shaped, partite, rounded, wedge-segmented leaves.

Arctic-buttercup leaf shapes know seasonal variability even as long, low, petulate stems keep 3 to 5 basal-stem, palmate, stem-kept leaves and kidney-shaped, partite, rounded, wedge-segmented leaves.
March-June flowering launches double-perianthed ("concerning-flower-setting"; perianthium [Greek περί ἄνθος; Latin -ium]), fused or separate, inner-whorled, 5 obovate-petaled ("reverse-egg-shaped"; Latin ob- ōvum -ātus) corolla ("chaplet/garlandet/wreathlet"; Latin corōlla). Double perianths model outer-whorling even as the often-green, outer-whorled, pubescent ("downy-becoming"; Latin pūbēscēns) calyx ("husk"; Greek κάλυξ) manifests separate-petaled sepals (Latin sēparātus petalum ["leaf"; Greek πέτᾰλον). Arctic buttercups need cross- or self-pollinating even as they niche beetle-membered Coleoptera ("sheath-wing"; Greek κολεόπτερος [κολεός πτερόν]) and fly-membered Diptera ("two-wings"; Greek δίπτερα [δι- πτερόν]) orders.
Author Naja Lund Aparico and illustrator Alex Nees offer Seasons by the Lake: Adventures in Greenland arctic buttercups even as afore-observed plants occupy coastal, northern Greenland.

Ranunculales ("little-frog-pertaining"; Latin ranunculus -ālēs [rāna -unculus]) ordership quarters three-opening pollen even as Ranunculaceae ("little-frog-resembling"; Latin ranunculus -āceae) familyship queues free, non-fused carpels, petals, sepals, stamens. Genus-specied Ranunculus arcticus ("little-frog northern[Ursa-Major-bear-]pertaining"; Greek ἀρκτικός [ἄρκτος -ικός]; Sir John Richardson [Mon., Nov. 5, 1787-Tue., Jun 5, 1865], 1823) realizes circumpolar-, cold-, rocky-, tundra-region tolerances. The afore-stated plant shelters toxic sap whose subsequent swelling sometimes sustains such severe stress as temporary paralysis even as it perhaps suggests the yellow-textile colors storywise.
Author Naja Lund Aparico and illustrator Alex Nees treat Seasons by the Lake: Adventures in Greenland to arctic buttercups even as dried petals tweak yellow dyes.

Scottish naval surgeon, naturalist and Arctic explorer Sir John Richardson (Nov. 5, 1787-June 5, 1865) taxonomized the circumpolarly distributed Arctic buttercup as Ranunculus arcticus ("217. R. arcticus," page 741) in "No. VII Botanical Appendix -- List of the Plants" (pages 729-763), which was included in Narrative of a Journey to the Shores of the Polar Sea, in the Years 1819, 20, 21, and 22 (MDCCCXXIII [1823]) by British Royal Navy officer, explorer and colonial administrator Sir John Franklin (April 16, 1786-June 11, 1847). The historical account concerned the Coppermine Expedition of 1819-1822, a British overland undertaking organized by the Royal Navy with aims of surveying and charting the area from Hudson Bay to the north coast of North America, eastwards from the mouth of northern Canada's Coppermine River. The expedition also sought to discover and map the Northwest Passage, between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through the Arctic Ocean, via waterways through the Arctic Archipelago of Canada.
Sir Richardson assigned "(B.) Denotes the Barren Grounds from Point Lake to the Arctic Sea" (page 730) as the particular habitat in which the Arctic buttercup plants were found.
George Back (Nov. 6, 1796-June 23, 1878) and Robert Hood (1797–Oct. 20, 1821), two midshipmen in the Admiralty of the United Kingdom, were assigned to assist Franklin and "to make drawings of the land, of the natives, and of the various objects of natural history; and particularly of such as Dr. Richardson, who, to his professional duties was to add that of naturalist, might consider to be most curious and interesting" ("Introduction," page xiii).

Scottish naval surgeon, naturalist and Arctic explorer Sir John Richardson (Nov. 5, 1787-June 5, 1865) assigned the scientific name of Ranunculus arcticus to the circumpolar perennial in the Ranunculaceae (buttercup or crowfoot) family that he discovered as a member of the Coppermine Expedition (1819-1822), which was commanded by British Royal Navy officer, explorer and colonial administrator Sir John Franklin (April 16, 1786-June 11, 1847). The British overland expedition aimed to survey and chart northern coastal Canada and to discover and map the Northwest Passage, a sea lane linking the Atlantic and Pacific oceans via the Arctic Archipelago of Canada.Sir Richardson assigned "(B.)
