Attorney Becky Baldwin Maybe Aces New York Lawyers in Puzzled to Death

Summary: Attorney Becky Baldwin maybe aces New York lawyers over murder charges in Puzzled to Death, 3rd mystery in the Puzzle Lady series authored by Parnell Hall.

Accountants and bookkeepers acknowledge as their professional ancestor Fra Luca Bartolomeo de Pacioli (1447?-June 19, 1517), acclaimed as father of accountants and bookkeepers. Acting as bookkeeper for Bakerhaven paper mill allows one suspect in the Vale strangulation to afford a comfortable house for his wife and two daughters; 1495 oil on panel portrait of Fra Luca Pacioli (center), attributed to Jacopo de' Barbari (1460/1470-ca. 1516) or Jacometto Veneziano (active 1472-1497): Public Domain, via Wikimedia Commons

Attorney Becky Baldwin maybe aces New York lawyers over murder charges in Puzzled to Death, 3rd mystery in the 20-book Puzzle Lady series authored by Parnell Hall (Oct. 31, 1934-Dec. 15, 2020).
Morning tennis at Clarksonville racket club brings Cindy Fuller to 23 Barlow Street, whose kitchen bears the dead body of Joey Vale’s strangled wife, 28-year-old Judy. Married neighbors Charlotte Drake, whose husband clambers with Ray to Charlie’s big-screen television for football games, and Betty Felson contribute nothing to catching the culpable strangler. Widowed neighbor Felicity Roth does not divulge whom she discerns at the Vale door that November day while Danbury tool-and-die worker Joe drinks at Rainbow Room.
Two strangled bodies in early December (2001?) elicit attorney Becky Baldwin’s fresh-faced expertise and criminal charges by County Prosecutor Henry Firth for Judge Hobbs’ county courthouse.

Cleaning lady Cora Felton and puzzle lady Selma Howe respectively find second female and first male fatalities for the Medical Examiner, Dr. Barney Nathan, to autopsy.
The December female fatality, like the November female fatality, gets groomed by Sal Mosely of Mosely Funeral Home on Sunset Drive for local, perhaps Congregational services. Girlfriend Becky and Officer Dan Finley hand Channel 8 reporter Rick Reed more scoops than Cora and girlfriend Sherry Carter hand Bakerhaven Gazette reporter Aaron Grant. Emergency Medical Services transports and police investigations by Chief Dale Harper and Officers Sam Brogan and Finley ignite one competition-suspended day for Bakerhaven Charity Crossword-Puzzle Tournament.
Becky jousts successfully with Bakerhaven police and prosecution twice over murder charges and perhaps, after Puzzled to Death, with New York lawyers over the third murder.

New Yorkers such as Craig Carmichael, Ned Doowacker, Paul Thornhill’s wife Jessica and Zelda Zisk and non-attendees Don Hinkle and Beverly Platt know the third killee.
Iris Cooper, as First Selectman in five-selectman meetings launching Cora’s and Harvey Beerbaum’s charity tournament, and tournament-competing mechanic Marty Haskel link puzzle-wise with the last victim. Perhaps tournament committee members such as bakery owner-operator Mary Cushman, librarian Edith Potter and banker Marcus Gelman’s wife met the final murderee at Friday Fun Night. Aaron’s parents, John, as head of his own insurance company, and Debbie, perhaps noted all three necrologies, of which two native Bakerhavenites and one tournament celebrity.
Perhaps Cora obtains, against New York lawyers observing victim three, from Becky a private investigatorship, which she opposed over murder victim one in Puzzled to Death.

Rainbow Room pleases less prosperous patrons such as Sy Fishman and more prosperous such as Billy Pickens, as paper-mill bookkeeper, Sara’s husband, Ellie’s and Wendy’s father.
Jed Benson and Lucy perhaps queue among the more prosperous as respective patron or proprietor of the Pickens’ preferred pizza pick-up and as their movie-going pal. Elsie Dixon and the Olsen couple perhaps reserve their bed-and-breakfast rooms for such respectively rich renters as Ned Dowacker and Jessica Thornhill, the latter Gattling-Finn heiresss. Small-town Bakerhaven shelters neither public transportation nor rental services so Jessica sends sufficient money for a Danbury agency to drive her rental to Olsen parking spaces.
Becky thwarts those trying her client over murder charges and, after Puzzled to Death, perhaps such New York lawyers as Carmichael-retained Roger Winnington over victim three.

The other suspect in the first strangulation acquires an assembly-line position at the Danbury tool-and-die plant. Tool-and-die makers are skilled craftsmen even as that occupation assures the second suspect of an undesirable area in small-town Bakerhaven; 2008 model of production system: PinguçoVerde, Public Domain, via Wikimedia Commons
