Canadian pianist and vocal coach and Met Opera assistant conductor Bryan Wagorn played the glockenspiel onstage in the 2022-2023 season's new production of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte.
Classical Era composer Wolfgang Mozart (Jan. 27, 1756-Dec. 5, 1791) set his musical score for Die Zauberflöte ("The Magic Flute") to a German libretto by Emanuel Schickaneder (Sep. 1, 1751-Sep. 21, 1812), stage name of Bavarian baritone, impresario and playwright Johann Joseph Schickeneder. The allegorical opera reflected the composer and librettist's interest in the fraternal organization of Freemasonry.
The Metropolitan Opera premiere of Die Zauberflöte happened Friday, March 30, 1900, at the opera company's first opera house, located at 1411 Broadway in Midtown Manhattan's Garment District. Mozart's fairytale opera was sung in Italian. The translator of the original German libretto to an Italian libretto, Il Flauto Magico, is listed as "unknown" by the Metropolitan Opera Archives Database (MetOpera Database).
Die Zauberflöte received five performances in the 1899-1900 season. Its opening took place Friday, March 30, 1900. The second through fifth, closing performances were given Wednesday, April 4; Saturday, April 7; Monday, April 9; and Thursday, April 12.
The 2022-2023 Met Opera season's roster included a new production of Die Zauberflöte by Simon McBurney. The English director made his Met Opera debut Friday, May 19, 2023, along with his new Mozart production in the opera company's 478th performance of Die Zauberflöte.
McBurney's new production received nine performances in the 2022-2023 season. McBurney's new staging opened Friday, May 19, 2023. The second through ninth, closing performances took place Monday, May 22; Thursday, May 25; Saturday, May 27; Wednesday, May 31; Saturday, June 3; Tuesday, June 6; Thursday, June 8; and Saturday, June 10.

Canadian pianist and vocal coach Bryan Wagorn, who has been Met Opera's assistant conductor since the 2013-2014 season, appeared onstage in all nine performances of the McBurney production as a glockenspiel player. As an example of a type of metallophone, the glockenspiel (German: Glocken, "bells" + Spiel, "play") has metal as its sound-producing body. The percussion instrument's metal bars are arranged in a keyboard layout. Modernly, a small keyboard incorporated into the casing replaces mallets, the glockenspiel's traditional striking accessory.
Bryan Wagorn appreciates that Simon McBurney transforms him into an "acting" participant by removing him from the orchestra pit for a visible, onstage playing of the glockenspiel, according to Wagorn's discussion in The Metropolitan Opera's Tuesday, June 6, 2023, tweet. Being onstage expanded Wagorn's learning curve by filling in his lack of prior training in "movement memory and acting memory," which do not pertain to orchestra pit occupants. As such, his experience with onstage versatility has instilled in him "much more appreciation for what the singers do.
Wagorn explains that the first hearing of the glockenspiel occurs in the Act I finale, in which Monostatos, overseer of Sarastro's temple, pursues Papageno and Princess Pamina. The glockenspiel sounds Papageno's magical protective bells, which had been given to him by the Three Ladies and which now need to charm Monostatos.
Mozart's music for the glockenspiel is "really beautiful," observes Wagorn. Mozart's virtuosity as a pianist explains his "showcase" of the glockenspiel player in Die Zauberflöte.
Wagorn relates a famous anecdote about Mozart as glockenspielist. The opera's librettist, Emmanuel Schikaneder, sang the role of Papageno in the opera's premiere and in subsequent performances. Mischievous Mozart slipped into a performance to prank Schickaneder during Papageno's Act II aria. He inserted passages where the glockenspiel was supposed to be silent and he was silent where the glockenspiel was to be sounded. Finally, Papageno stated: "Ah, the bells are broken!"
Die Zauberflöte numbered as the second of two new productions in the 2022-2023 season that called for Wagorn as a soloist. In December 2022 and January 2023 he soloed onstage as piano-playing Boleslao Lazinski in David McVicar's new production of Umberto Giordano's Fedora.

Out of Sight, Out of Mind on Magnum PI Are Not So For Kennedy Falconry

Summary: Out of Sight, Out of Mind season 5 episode 9 at Kaneohe Psychiatric Hospital on action drama television series Magnum PI are not so for Kennedy falconry.

"God talks to human beings through many vectors: through each other, through organized religion, through the great books of those religions, through wise people, through art and music and literature and poetry, but nowhere with such detail and grace and color and joy as through creation. When we destroy a species, when we destroy a special place, we're diminishing our capacity to sense the divine, understand who God is and what our own potential is." Robert Francis Kennedy Jr., April 19, 2023, Boston Park Plaza Hotel, Back Bay, Boston, Massachusetts.

Falconers and their falcons act as environmental-balance agents for wildlife populations, especially at wildland urban interfaces. Falconer-associated falcons add displaced, introduced, invasive invertebrates and reptiles to their avian and mammalian diets. Perhaps admiring Shadrach the lizard admitted Rober F. Kennedy Jr. among wildlife rehabilitators even as T.H. White's (May 29, 1906-Jan. 17, 1964) The Once and Future King admitted him among falconers at age 14; Saturday, March 11, 1961, image of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. presenting his uncle, President John F. Kennedy, with a salamander named Shadrach in the Oval Office at the White House (photo credit: Abbie Alphaeus Rowe [August 23, 1905 – April 17, 1967], official White House photographer 1941-1967 via National Park Service): Public Domain, via Wikimedia Commons

Out of Sight, Out of Mind, season 5 episode 9, debuted rerunlessly April 16, 2023, at Kaneohe Psychiatric Hospital on action drama television series Magnum PI, are not so for Kennedy falconry.
Magnum episode 5, as the 85th Magnum episode overall, for NBC television season 2022-2023, by director Jay Hernandez and writer David Slack, broaches abuse and squalidness. It considers that “over the years, there have been loads of scandals at psych hospitals. I mean, you hear stories of horrific abuse and squalid conditions.” Kaneohe, Honolulu County, Oahu, domiciles Hawaii State Hospital (from Hawaiian kāne ʻohe, “man bamboo”; hono lulu, “bay sheltered”; o’ahu, “gathering-place”; ha wai ‘i, “breath life-force supreme”).
The 144-bed Keaahala Road (from Hawaiian ke a’a hala, “the root pandanus [Pandanus tectorius]”) edifice emerged, before 2022 year-end, all-new, camera-, security detector-, window-enabled cleanly, modernly.

Falconers adopt peregrine falcons (Falco peregrinus) for their falconry. The above-mentioned raptor adopts Southeastern Hawaiian Islands as their warm-winter areas October through May; female (left) and male (right) Great-Footed Hawk Falco peregrinus, Gmel., with prey, green-winged teal (left) and gadwall (right), Drawn from Nature by John J. Audubon, in The Birds of America, No. 4, Plate XVI: No copyright--United States (NoC--US), via ULS (University of Pittsburgh Library System)

Perhaps its fashioning near 64-acre (25.89-hectare) Kaneohe Forest Reserve in Koolaupoko district (from Hawaiian ko’olau poko, “north/windward short”) favors wild animals fancying hospital features and windows.
Wildland urban interfaces, such as built environments around wooded nature, generate great numbers of wild animals that grieve those who go for guns, poisons and traps. The 1,375-foot- (419-meter-) high reserve 2 miles (3.22 kilometers) from Kaneohe community has backpacking, cabin, cycling, horse-trail, mountain-biking, nature-trail, picnic-area, RV, shelter, tent and walking-path haunts. Reserve installations therefore invite such introduced, invasive mammalian wildlife as house mice (Mus musculus) and Norway (Ratus norvegicus), Pacific (Rattus exulans) and roof (Rattus rattus) rats.
Reserve birds and mammals journey safely, securely Out of Sight, Out of Mind of the patient- and people-safe and secure Kaneohe Psychiatric Hospital on Magnum PI.

The Merlin falcon species (Falco columbarius) adopts Hawaiian islands as warm-winter areas between December and March. The Hawaiian islands agree with no falcon species as endemic, indigenous, native animals year-round; European subspecies Falco aesalon Tunst., adult male (front right) on rock, adult female (front left) on branch and, farther on branch, young female (left) and young male (right) on branch, illustrated by JGK, Dutch bird illustrator Johannes Gerardus Keulemans (June 8, 1842-March 29, 1912), in J.A. Naumann, Naturgeschichte der Vögel Mitteleuropas, V. Band: Raubvögel (1899), Tafel 19, opposite page 112: Public Domain, via Biodiversity Heritage Library

The Kennedy falconry of Robert Francis Kennedy Jr as bird rehabilitator, environmental lawyer and master falconer kindles a non-noise-polluting knuckling down on wildland urban interface-displaced wildlife.
The entire United States, apart the District of Columbia and Hawaii, legalizes falconry whose Kennedy-authored New York state exam manual the North American Falconers Association lauds. Falconry mandates mastering state wildlife department or agency materials and written examinations; meeting with falconers, state falconry organizations and sponsors; and moving falcons into state-inspectable facilities. North American falconry generally and Kennedy falconry specifically necessitates nice niches with equipment and exercise to nurture, facilities to nestle and food to nourish 10-plus-year-living falcons.
Kennedy falconry offers opportunities in-sight, in-mind or Out of Sight, Out of Mind such as on Magnum PI, to optimize endemic, indigenous, native birds and mammals.

The Kaneohe community of Honolulu County on Oahu island in Hawaii state agrees with Hawaiian governmental offerings as Hawaii State Hospital. Its Keeahala Road address allows its moniker as Kaneohe Psychiatric Hospital. Its construction in 2022 amasses no reputation for abuse allegations in squalid accommodations. Out of Sight, Out of Mind ambushes likelier amount to in-sight, in-mind animals answering to wildland urban interface displacements as introduced, invasive birds and mammals; Saturday, Sep. 17, 2005, 09:25, view of Kāne‘ohe, Hawai‘i, from the Nu'uanu Pali Lookout, windward (northeast) O'ahu, Hawaii: Eric Guinther at the English-language Wikipedia, CC BY SA 3.0 Unported, via Wikimedia Commons

Not one of the eight Hawaiian main islands, not one of the 124 Leeward Northwestern Hawaiian Islands possesses falcons permanently positioning themselves there endemically, indigenously, natively.
Kennedy falconry quartered since 1999 one female hawk, with her first mate and then her second, north of New York City, in Mount Kisco, Westchester County. Southeastern Hawaiian Islands retain peregrine falcons (Falco peregrinus) every year between October and May even as the raptors rarely regularize main-island residencies, apart downtown Honolulu recently. The merlin (Falco columbarius) falcon species even more sparingly, more sparsely seeks forest edges and open grasslands outside the Americas, apart winter-warm Hawaii December through March.
Thinned wildland urban interfaces, without Kennedy falconry, thwart birds and mammals tending toward in-sight, in-mind than Out of Sight, Out of Mind as on Magnum PI.

Kahakumakaliua Aged Family Ties to Haunani-Kay Trask Older than NCIS: Hawai’i

Summary: Kahakumakaliua aged Family Ties to Haunani-Kay Trask older than season 2 episode 16 July 10, 2023, on police procedural television series NCIS: Hawai’i.

Dr. Haunani-Kay Trask (Oct. 3, 1949-July 3, 2021) advanced ancestral and descendant genealogies and family history. She advocated for Hawaiian family ties whose ancestry her Cooper maternal and Trask paternal lines affirmed, back to the parent couple of all Native Hawaiians.: University of Hawaii at Manoa, via Facebook July 3, 2021

Kahakumakaliua aged Family Ties to Dr. Haunani-Kay Trask older than season 2 episode 16 debuted Monday, March 13, 2023, and rerun Monday, July 10, 2023, on police procedural television series NCIS: Hawai’i.
Episode 38 overall, by director Christine Moore and writer Ron McGee, broaches first-generational ties binding parent to parent, parent to children and children to one another. Annabelle Williams’ Haunani-Kay Trask, Champion of Native Rights of Hawaii, Dies at 71, July 9 and 12, 2021, for The New York Times, considers Trask Hawaiian-ness. She describes 2019 census data divulging that Hawaiian society domiciles respectively 38, 25-plus, 25 and 10 percent Asian, two- to two-plus-racial, White and Native Hawaiian races.
The State of Hawaii’s Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism’s Research and Economic Analysis Division enumerated Hawaiian as 5th at-home, most-spoken, non-English second language, 2009-2013.

Ancient Hawaiian legends, mythology, religion and spirituality aimed to alert their advocates and audiences to their ancestors and their descendants. They aligned their deifiers and their deities through two main lines of genealogical descent. One line allocates to Sky Father and Earth Mother ancestorship of archipelagic Hawaiians. The other line allows for Sky Father and Earth Mother ascending all genealogical lines of Hawaii, Kauai, Maui, Molokai and Oahu ruling high chiefs. Maternal Mauian and paternal Kauaian lines, respectively through Piilani and Kahakumakaliua, ally Dr. Haunani-Kay Trask with her ancestral Sky Father and Earth Mother; Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, 13:37, image of "Religion, Hawaiian Islands, Northern Polynesia diorama in the Oceania exhibit," Milwaukee Public Museum, downtown Milwaukee, southeastern Wisconsin: Michael Barera, CC BY SA 4.0 International, via Wikimedia Commons

The March 2016 Statistical Report, Detailed Languages Spoken at Home in the State of Hawaii, found 18,610 Hawaiian-language speakers statewide, or 3.8 percent of 1,287,075 Hawaiians.
Hawaii County, Honolulu County and Maui County respectively guard as 1st, 8th and 4th at-home, most-spoken, non-English second language, 2009-2013, 5,920, 9,475 and 2,050 Hawaiian-language speakers. They honor their ancient Hawaiian ancestry as 18.1 percent of 175,188 Hawaii County-ites, 3.8 percent of 901,756 Honolulu County-ites and 6.8 percent of 146,246 Maui County-ites. Spoken-English skills at less than “Very Well” (Statistical Report 2016:pages 8, 10, 12, 14) inform 3,010 statewide, 630 Hawaii, 1,965 Honolulu, 240 Maui county-wide Hawaiian-language speakers.
Perhaps 16.2, 10.6, 20.7 and 11.7 percent statewide, Hawaii, Honolulu, Maui county-wide Native Hawaiians jumbling English never jeopardizes Family Ties older than what NCIS: Hawai’i jubilates.

The 22nd High Chiefship of 23 Kauaian alii nui (from Hawaiian ali'i nui, "chief principal") amounted to a High Chiefess-ship under Kamakahelei (died 1794). The Kauaian queenship anchored Kauai island (from Hawaiian kaua'i, "place around the neck"?) 8 rulerships after Kahakumakaliua (ruled 1540-1560?), direct ancestor of Dr. Haunani-Kay Trask; "The Kamakahelei Cape, Memoirs Bishop Museum, Vol. VII, Fig. 50. This circular cape is of ʻōʻō (Acrulocercus nobtlis) yellow with two black and two red triangles in front. It measures in width 30 inches; in depth behind 16, and in front 8.5 and 9 inches. Kamakahelei was the mother of Kaumualii by Kaeokulani; another of her husbands was Kaneoneo whose shin-bone later formed the kumu or handle of the interesting kahili (No. 24) in the Bishop Museum. When Cook arrived at Waimea in 1778, and the people were loudly discussing the wonderful event Kamakahelei said: "Let us not fight against our god; let us please Him that He may be favorable to us; then Kamakahelei gave her daughter as a woman to Lono [Cook]; Lelemahoalani was her name; she was older sister of Kaumualii, and Lono slept with that woman, and the Kauai women prostituted themselves to the foreigners for iron. Whether the cape ever belonged to the famous chiefess or was simply named as a memorial of a famous ancestor in the family of the Queen Kapiolani is not recorded" (page 55); image of "The Kamakahelei Cape," circular cape of ʻōʻō (Acrulocercus nobtlis) yellow with two black and two red triangles in front, namesakes Kamakahelei, a wife of Kaneoneo and mother of Kaumualii by Kaeokulani (Memoirs of the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum of Polynesian Ethnology and Natural History, vol. Perhaps all those five-year-old through old-age Hawaiian-language speakers know their family lines, even as Dr. Haunani-Kay Trask knew Kahakumakaliua Kauaian paternal and Piilani Mauian maternal lines.
Bernard Kaukaohu Trask (Aug. 10, 1913, Honolulu, Oahu-June 16, 1977, Honolulu, Oahu) linked daughter Haunani-Kay Trask (Oct. 3, 1949-July 3, 2021) to Kauai County and island. The activist, author, poet and University of Hawaii at Manoa educator thereby mattered as paternal descendant of the parent couple of all ancient Hawaii’s ruling chiefs. Sky father Wakea (from Hawaiian wākea, “expanse”) and Earth mother Papahānaumoku (from Hawaiian papa hānau moku, “foundation offspring island”) nurtured as descendants 23 Kauaian alii nui.
Kahakumakaliua, ancestor of Dr. Haunani-Kay Trask, operated as 14th alii nui (from Hawaiian ali’i nui, “chief principal”) 463, 483 years before Family Ties on NCIS: Hawai’i.

Kauaian High Chiefships animated Kauai and Niihau (from Hawaiian ni'ihau) from the 14th generation after their parent couple, Sky Father Wakea (from Hawaiian wākea, "expanse") and Earth Mother Papahanaumoku (from Hawaiian papa hānau moku, “foundation offspring island” via Papahānaumoku) through their appearance as Alii Nui number 23. The 23rd supreme rulership announced Kaumualii (from Hawaiian ka umu ali'i, "the oven [of the] nobility") as last independent Kauai chief (1794-May 26, 1824) and first within the Kingdom of Hawai'i (1795-1893); Monday, March 22, 2010, 11:43, image of gravestone for Hawaiian royalty, Kaumuali'i, died 1825, and Kaahumanu, his wife, died 1822, in Waine'e (now Waiola) Church Cemetery, Lahaina Historic District, Lahaina, Maui, Maui County, Hawaii: Joel Bradshaw, Public Domain, via Wikimedia Commons

The 13th generation from Wakea’s and Papa’s second son, Haloa (from Hawaiian hāloa, “far-reaching”), produced Nanaulu, first Hawaiian king and ancestor of first Kauai Chief Moikeha.
The 23rd generation after Haloa queued Laamaikahiki, after 2nd Chief Haulanuiaiakea and before 4th through 11th Chiefs Ahukinialaa, Kamahano, Luanuu, Kukona, Manokalanipo, Kaumakaamano, Kahakuakane and Kuwalupaukamoku. Kahakumakapaweo, Kalanikukuma, Kamakapu, Kawelo-mahamahaia, Kawelomakualua, Kaweloaikanaka, Kawelo-a-Maihuna-ali`i, Kuike-ala-i-keuo'o-o-kalani `Unu-i-akea Ku-ali`i, Peleʻioholani, Kamakahelei and Kaumualiʻi respectively realized Kauai High Chiefships 12 through 13 and 15 through 23. Twenty-second Kauai High Chiefship, under High Chiefess Kamakahelei (died 1794), perhaps served as ancestral precedent of a strong Hawaiianeress to Dr. Haunani-Kay Trask two centuries later.
Kahakumakaliua triggered Family Ties, ancient as those of Hawaiian descendants of Hawaii, Maui, Molokai and Oahu rulers, ancienter to Dr. Haunani-Kay Trask, than on NCIS: Hawai’i.
