Vera Resides in East Central Oceanus Procellarum on Lunar Near Side

Vera resides in east central Oceanus Procellarum on the lunar near side as a northwestern quadrant craterlet with Prinz and Ivan as nearest named craters.
Vera is centered at 26.33 degrees north latitude, minus 43.71 degrees west longitude, according to the International Astronomical Union's (IAU) Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature. The craterlet obtains its northernmost and southernmost latitudes at 26.36 degrees north and 26.29 degrees north, respectively. It establishes its easternmost and westernmost longitudes at minus 43.67 degrees west and minus 43.75 degrees west, respectively. Vera has a diameter of 2.27 kilometers.
Vera is located in east central Oceanus Procellarum. The dark, basaltic plain sprawls across the near side's northwestern and southern quadrants. Oceanus Procellarum's vastness establishes it as the largest of the lunar maria (Latin: "seas"; mare, "sea"). Procellarum's unique classification as oceanus, defined by the Gazetter's Descriptor Terms (Feature Types) webpage as "A very large dark area on the moon," recognizes its immensity.
Oceanus Procellarum ("Ocean of Storms") is centered at 20.67 degrees north latitude, minus 56.68 degrees west longitude. The dark, basaltic plain's northernmost and southernmost latitudes stretch to 57.43 degrees north and minus 16.27 degrees south, respectively. Its easternmost and westernmost longitudes span minus 26.85 degrees west to minus 81.08 degrees west, respectively. Oceanus Procellarum's diameter spans 2,592.24 kilometers.
Vera is situated in proximity to the northeastern rim of Oceanus Procellarum's Prinz Crater. Prior to official name approval as Vera, the craterlet was designated as Prinz A.
Prinz Crater is centered at 25.49 degrees north latitude, minus 44.14 degrees west longitude. The lunar impact crater remnant finds its northernmost and southernmost latitudes at 26.25 degrees north and 24.73 degrees north, respectively. It lists easternmost and westernmost longitudes of minus 43.3 degrees west and minus 44.98 degrees west, respectively. Prinz Crater's diameter measures 46.13 kilometers.
Ivan lies to the northeast of Vera. Prior to official name approval in 1976, Ivan was designated as Prinz B.
Ivan is centered at 26.86 degrees north latitude, minus 43.26 degrees west longitude. The craterlet posts northernmost and southernmost latitudes of 26.92 degrees north and 26.79 degrees north, respectively. It marks its easternmost and westernmost longitudes at minus 43.19 degrees west and minus 43.33 degrees west, respectively. Ivan has a diameter of 3.84 kilometers.
Krieger C is positioned to the northwest of Vera. The lunar impact crater lies to the southeast of Krieger Crater as its parent's only satellite.
Krieger C is centered at 27.73 degrees north latitude, minus 44.7 degrees west longitude. The satellite achieves northernmost and southernmost latitudes of 27.8 degrees north and 27.66 degrees north, respectively. It maintains its easternmost and westernmost longitudes at minus 44.62 degrees west and minus 44.78 degrees west, respectively. Krieger C has a diameter of 4.15 kilometers.
Montes Harbinger neighbors to the east of Vera. The mountain range's southern end sidles along eastern Prinz Crater.
The Montes Harbinger range is centered at 26.89 degrees north latitude, minus 41.29 degrees west longitude. The range gives northernmost and southernmost latitudes of 28.47 degrees north and 25.56 degrees north, respectively. Montes Harbinger's easternmost and westernmost longitudes occur at minus 40.35 degrees west and minus 42.53 degrees west, respectively. Montes Harbinger's diameter measures 92.7 kilometers.
Rimae Prinz traverses Vera's neighborhood as a network of sinuous fissures, also described as rilles (from German rilles, "channels"). The system of rimae (Latin: "cracks, fissures") lies in the terrain bounded by Prinz Crater to the south, Krieger C to the northwest and Montes Harbinger to the east.
Rimae Prinz is centered at 27.05 degrees north latitude, minus 43.51 degrees west longitude. The fissured network's northernmost and southernmost latitudes extend to 28.18 degrees north and 26 degrees north, respectively. The sinuous system's easternmost and westernmost longitudes touch minus 42.59 degrees west and minus 44.56 degrees west, respectively. Rimae Prinz's diameter measures 10.95 kilometers.
Lava flowing from Vera carved Rimae Prinz, according to "Rima Prinz and Vera," a visualization released Aug. 1, 2016, by Ernie Wright, science visualizer at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), on NASA's Scientific Visualization Studio website. Vera may have originated as a lava lake. The system of channels finds to the west of Vera before cutting a sharp northerly turn. The serpentine appearance created by Vera as the snake's head and Rimae Prinz as the reptile's body encompasses approximately 75 kilometers.
Vera numbers among 95 minor features identified with first-name designations on lunar topophotomaps prepared and published by The Defense Mapping Agency (DMA) for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Vera is plotted on NASA Lunar Topophotomap 39A3S1, which was published in December 1974. The map's Names Information lists "Ivan, Vera" as unofficial names used "only for the identification of features on this map."
The International Astronomical Union approved Vera as the craterlet's official name in 1976. The Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature originates Vera as: "Latin female name."

Ruth Resides in East Central Oceanus Procellarum on Lunar Near Side

Ruth resides in east central Oceanus Procellarum on the lunar near side as a northwestern quadrant duo with northeastern neighbor Rocco near the eastern rim of Krieger Crater.
Ruth is centered at 28.71 degrees north latitude, minus 45.06 degrees west longitude, according to the International Astronomical Union's (IAU) Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature. The northwestern quadrant craterlet finds its northernmost and southernmost latitudes at 28.76 degrees north and 28.66 degrees north, respectively. It establishes its easternmost and westernmost longitudes at minus 45.01 degrees west and minus 45.12 degrees west, respectively. Ruth Craterlet has a diameter of 3.08 kilometers.
Ruth is situated in east central Oceanus Procellarum. The craterlet's location places it to the southwest of the highland break that marks the meeting of east central Oceanus Procellarum with west central Mare Imbrium.
Oceanus Procellarum ranks as the largest of the moon's dark basaltic plains, known as maria (Latin: "seas"; mare, "sea"). Procellarum's unique designation as oceanus recognizes the plain's immensity. Oceanus Procellarum sprawls across the near side's northwestern and southwestern quandrants.
Oceanus Procellarum ("Ocean of Storms") is centered at 20.67 degrees north latitude, minus 56.68 degrees west longitude. The immense, dark, basaltic plain's northernmost and southernmost latitudes extend to 57.43 degrees north and minus 16.27 degrees south, respectively. Its easternmost and westernmost longitudes reach minus 26.85 west and minus 81.08 degrees west, respectively. Oceanus Procellarum's diameter spans 2,592.24 kilometers.
Ruth forms a duo with northeastern craterous neighbor Rocco in east central Oceanus Procellarum. The two craterlets reside near the eastern rim of Krieger Crater.
Rocco is centered at 28.91 degrees north latitude, minus 45 degrees west longitude. Rocco marks its northernmost and southernmost latitudes at 28.98 degrees north and 28.84 degrees north, respectively. The craterlet posts easternmost and westernmost longitudes of minus 44.92 degrees west and minus 45.08 degrees west, respectively. Rocco Craterlet's diameter measures 4.35 kilometers.
Krieger Crater is centered at 29.02 degrees north latitude, minus 45.61 degrees west longitude. The lunar impact crater achieves its northernmost and southernmost latitudes at 29.4 degrees north and 28.65 degrees north, respectively. It maintains its easternmost and westernmost longitudes at minus 45.18 degrees west and minus 46.04 degrees west, respectively. Krieger Crater's diameter measures 22.87 kilometers.
Van Biesbroeck Crater neighbors to the southwest of Rocco and to the west of Ruth. Van Biesbroeck intrudes across Krieger Crater's southern rim.
Van Biesbroeck is centered at 28.77 degrees north latitude, minus 45.59 degrees west longitude. The small lunar impact crater's northernmost and southernmost latitudes are identified as 28.92 north and 28.62 north, respectively. Its easternmost and westernmost longitudes are given as minus 45.42 degrees west and minus 45.76 degrees west, respectively. Van Biesbroeck Crater has a diameter of 9.08 kilometers.
Krieger C lies to the southeast of Ruth and Rocco. Krieger C occurs as the Krieger Crater system's solitary satellite.
Krieger C is centered at 27.73 degrees north latitude, minus 44.7 degrees west longitude. The satellite's northernmost and southernmost latitudes are detailed as 27.8 degrees north and 27.66 degrees north, respectively. Its easternmost and westernmost longitudes are listed as minus 44.62 degrees west and minus 44.78 degrees west, respectively. Krieger C has a diameter of 4.15 kilometers.
Angström Crater lies to the northeast of Ruth and Rocco. The lunar impact crater is located at the border between east central Oceanus Procellarum and west central Mare Imbrium.
Angström Crater is centered at 29.9 degrees north latitude, minus 41.67 degrees west longitude. It obtains its northernmost and southernmost latitudes at 30.05 degrees north and 29.74 degrees north, respectively. It places its easternmost and westernmost longitudes at minus 41.49 degrees west and minus 41.85 degrees west, respectively. Angström Crater's diameter measures 9.55 kilometers.

Aloha Resides in East Central Oceanus Procellarum on Lunar Near Side


Summary: Aloha resides in the east central Oceanus Procellarum on the lunar near side as a craterlet northwest of the northwestern quadrant's Montes Agricola.

Aloha resides in the east central Oceanus Procellarum on the lunar near side as a craterlet that neighbors to the northwest of the northwestern quadrant's Montes Agricola.
Aloha is centered at 29.79 degrees north latitude, minus 53.88 degrees west longitude, according to the International Astronomical Union's (IAU) Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature. The northern hemisphere craterlet establishes its northernmost and southernmost latitudes at 29.83 degrees north and 29.75 degrees north, respectively. It finds its easternmost and westernmost longitudes at minus 53.83 degrees west and minus 53.93 degrees west, respectively. Aloha Craterlet has a diameter of 2.55 kilometers.
Aloha Craterlet is located in the east central Oceanus Procellarum. Aloha lies to the west-southwest of the highland break that marks the joining of eastern Oceanus Procellarum with western Mare Imbrium.
Mare Imbrium ("Sea of Showers") is centered at 34.72 degrees north latitude, minus 14.91 degrees west longitude. The dark, basaltic plain's northernmost and southernmost latitudes stretch to 51.46 degrees north and 15.23 degrees north, respectively. Its easternmost and westernmost longitudes touch 8.56 degrees east and minus 38.36 degrees west, respectively. Mare Imbrium's diameter spans 1,145.53 kilometers.
Oceanus Procellarum ("Ocean of Storms") sprawls across the lunar near side's northwestern and southwestern quadrants as the moon's largest mare (Latin: "sea"). It is the only mare with the designation of Oceanus. The Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature's Descriptor Terms (Feature Types) defines "oceanus, oceani" as: "A very large dark area on the moon."
Oceanus Procellarum is centered at 20.67 degrees north latitude, minus 56.68 degrees west longitude. Its vast darkness records northernmost and southernmost latitudes of 57.43 degrees north and minus 16.27 degrees south, respectively. It registers easternmost and westernmost longitudes of minus 26.85 degrees west and minus 81.08 degrees west, respectively. Oceanus Procellarum's diameter spans 2,592.24 kilometers.
Montes Agricola lies to the southeast of Aloha Craterlet. The elongated mountain range trends southwest-northeast near Oceanus Procellarum's east central edge.
Montes Agricola is centered at 29.06 degrees north latitude, minus 54.07 degrees west longitude. Its northernmost and southernmost latitudes extend to 30.64 degrees north and 27.2 degrees north, respectively. Its easternmost and westernmost longitudes touch minus 51.73 degrees west and minus 56.41 degrees west, respectively. Montes Agricola's diameter measures 159.76 kilometers.
Rima Cleopatra frames Aloha Craterlet to the north. The fissure parallels Montes Agricola's southwest-northeast trend and makes a dramatic southward turn to form a hook at its northern end.
Rima Cleopatra is centered at 30.03 degrees north latitude, minus 53.8 degrees west longitude. The fissure's northernmost and southernmost latitudes occur at 30.15 degrees north and 29.97 degrees north, respectively. It marks its easternmost and westernmost longitudes at minus 53.57 degrees west and minus 54.04 degrees west, respectively. Rima Cleopatra's diameter, or greatest length, measures 14.66 kilometers.
Wollaston U and Wollaston V occur as Aloha Crater's nearest named craters. They are located as the two westernmost of the Wollaston Crater system's six satellites.
Wollaston V lies to the west-southwest of Wollaston U. Satellite V's position to the north-northwest of Aloha makes it the closer of the two satellites to the craterlet. Satellite U is positioned to the northeast of Aloha.
Wollaston U is centered at 30.99 degrees north latitude, minus 52.87 degrees west longitude. It places its northernmost and southernmost latitudes at 31.03 degrees south and 30.94 degrees south, respectively. It finds its easternmost and westernmost longitudes at minus 52.81 degrees west and minus 52.92 degrees west, respectively. Wollaston U has a diameter of 2.87 kilometers.
Wollaston V is centered at 30.89 degrees north latitude, minus 53.98 degrees west longitude. It posts northernmost and southernmost latitudes of 30.95 degrees north and 30.84 degrees north, respectively. It marks its easternmost and westernmost longitudes at minus 53.91 degrees west and minus 54.04 degrees west, respectively. Wollaston V has a diameter of 3.16 kilometers.
Aloha numbers among 95 minor features identified with first-name designations on lunar topophotomaps prepared and published by The Defense Mapping Agency (DMA) for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Aloha is plotted on NASA Lunar Topophotomap 38B2S1, which was published in May 1974. The map's Names Information lists "Aloha, Cleopatra" as unofficial names used "only for the identification of features on this map."
The International Astronomical Union approved Aloha as the craterlet's official name in 1976. The Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature originates Aloha as: "Hawaiian female first name."

Stella Resides Along Southeastern Mare Serenitatis on Lunar Near Side


Summary: Stella resides along southeastern Mare Serenitatis on the lunar near side as a northeastern quadrant crater between Ching-Te and Mons Argaeus.

Stella resides along southeastern Mare Serenitatis on the lunar near side as a northeastern quadrant crater with Ching-Te Crater and Mons Argaeus as northeastern and southwestern neighbors, respectively.
Stella is centered at 19.91 degrees north latitude, 29.76 degrees east longitude, according to the International Astronomical Union's (IAU) Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature. The northeastern quadrant craterlet reports northernmost and southernmost latitudes of 19.92 degrees north and 19.91 degrees north, respectively. It lists easternmost and westernmost longitudes of 29.77 degrees east and 29.75 degrees east, respectively. Stella has a diameter of 0.42 kilometers.
Stella is sited along southeastern Mare Serenitatis. The craterlet's location places it near the northwestern edges of the dark, basaltic plain's southern neighbor, Mare Tranquillitatis.
Mare Serenitatis ("Sea of Serenity") is centered at 27.29 degrees north latitude, 18.36 degrees east longitude. The lunar mare (Latin: "sea") extends its northernmost and southernmost latitudes to 37.81 degrees north and 16.13 degrees north, respectively. The dark plain's easternmost and westernmost longitudes reach 29.92 degrees east and 6.59 degrees east, respectively. Mare Serenitatis has a diameter of 674.28 kilometers.
Ching-Te and Mons Argaeus reside as Stella's nearest named crater and massif, respectively, along southeastern Mare Serenitatis. Ching-Te lies to the near northeast of Stella. Mons Argaeus stretches to the southwest of Stella.
Ching-Te is centered at 20.02 degrees north latitude, 29.97 degrees east longitude. The lunar impact crater achieves its northernmost and southernmost latitudes at 20.08 degrees north and 19.96 degrees north, respectively. It establishes its easternmost and westernmost longitudes at 30.03 degrees east and 29.9 degrees east, respectively. Ching-Te's diameter measures 3.7 kilometers.
Ching-Te is positioned southwest of the Apollo 17 landing site. Lunar Module (LM) Challenger landed Monday, Dec. 11, 1972, southeast of the North Massif in the Taurus-Littrow valley.
Stella Craterlet's southwestern neighbor, Mons Argaeus, wedges between southeastern Mare Serenitatis and northwestern Mare Tranquillitatis. In his Victorian era lunar guide, The Moon: A Full Description and Map of Its Principal Physical Features, published in 1895, British selenographer Thomas Gwyn Empy Elger (Oct. 27, 1836-Jan. 9, 1897) glowingly described the massif: "There are few objects on the moon's visible surface which afford a more striking and beautiful picture than this mountain and its surrounding heights with their shadows a few hours after sunrise. It attains an altitude of more than 8,000 feet above the Mare, and at a certain phase resembles a bright spear-head or dagger. There is a well- defined rimmed depression abutting on its southern point" (page 51).
Mons Argaeus is centered at 19.33 degrees north latitude, 29.01 degrees east longitude. The massif obtains its northernmost and southernmost latitudes at 20.35 degrees north and 18.71 degrees north, respectively. Easternmost and westernmost longitudes occur at 30.04 degrees east and 28.06 degrees east, respectively. Mons Argaeus has a diameter of 61.48 kilometers.
Rima Carmen and Rima Rudolf intervene between Stella and Mons Argaeus. Rima Carmen neighbors to the west of Stella. Rima Rudolf lies to the south.
Rima Carmen is centered at 19.95 degrees north latitude, 29.3 degrees east longitude. The fissure posts northernmost and southernmost latitudes of 20.19 degrees north and 19.68 degrees north, respectively. The rille marks its easternmost and westernmost longitudes at 29.38 degrees east and 29.15 degrees east, respectively. Rima Carmen's diameter measures 15.02 kilometers.
Rima Rudolf is centered at 19.71 degrees north latitude, 29.62 degrees east longitude. The channel records northernmost and southernmost latitudes of 19.81 degrees north and 19.58 degrees north, respectively. The fissure registers its easternmost and westernmost longitudes at 29.68 degrees east and 29.6 degrees east, respectively. Rima Rudolf's diameter measures 8.29 kilometers.
Stella numbers among 95 minor features identified with first-name designations on lunar topophotomaps prepared and published by The Defense Mapping Agency (DMA) for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Stella is plotted on NASA Lunar Topophotomap 42C3S3, which was published in October 1974. The map's Names Information lists "Ching-Te, Fossa Rudolf, Rima Carmen, Stella" as unofficial names used "only for the identification of features on this map."
