‘Imiloa December 2024 Sky Watch Aced Hibernal Northern Winter Solstice

‘Imiloa December 2024 Sky Watch aced hibernal northern winter solstice of the Northern Hemisphere Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, even as that day acted as estival southern summer solstice of the Southern Hemisphere.

The winter solstice, also bruited hibernal solstice (from Latin hībernum -ālis, “winter -pertaining” via hībernālis; sōl sistō, “sun to stand still”) began Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024. It comes three months after the autumnal, fall, September equinox; six months after the estival, June, summer solstice; nine months after the March, spring, vernal equinox. The two equinoxes and the two solstices respectively defer to two definitive domiciles of our Earth as it did its annual orbit around our solar-system sun.

The northern-autumn, northern-fall, September equinox (from Latin aequus, “equal”; nox, “night”) expresses solar-disk exposure exactly overhead, at our Equator, halfway between Earthly North and South Poles.

The September, northern-fall, northern-autumn equinox features halfway fitting over our Equatorial plane, between the Southern Hemisphere’s Tropic of Capricorn and the Northern Hemisphere’s Tropic of Cancer.

The December, northern-hibernal, northern-winter solstice guards, from north- and south-polar axes getting tilted respectively away from and toward our Sun, the lowest-generated daylight hours all year. The March, northern-spring, northern-vernal (from Latin vērnus -ālis, “spring-pertaining” via vērnālis) equinox has our Sun directly over our Equatorial plane, halfway between Northern and Southern Tropics. The June, northern-estival, northern-summer (from Latin aestās -īvus, “summer -related” via aestīvus -ālis, “summer -pertaining” via aestīvālis) invokes our Sun directly over the Tropic of Cancer.

‘Imiloa December 2024 Sky Watch jubilates, with other North-Pacific islands the hibernal northern winter solstice even as the South-Pacific islands jubilate the December, southern-estival, southern-summer solstice.

The December, northern-hibernal, northern-winter solstice keepsakes, from our north- and south-polar axes keeping tilted respectively away from and toward our Sun, the greatest-kindled night-time all year.

That solstice logs least lapse between one 24 hours’ early-rising and early-setting suns all year even as another day lodges earliest sunrise, still another earliest sunset. The Time and Date dot-com site mentions the northern-winter solstice manifesting respectively earliest-sunrise and earliest-sunset times a few days respectively before and after the December-solstice date. It notes 10 hours 56 minutes 34 seconds between December-solstice sunrise and sunset over Hilo, Hawaii (from Hawaiian hilo, “thread”; ha wai ‘i, “breath life-force supreme”).

Winter-solstice sun-setting quartered 5:47 p.m. Hawaii-Aleutian Standard (1:47 Chamorro, 4:47 Samoa, 7:47 Alaska, 8:47 Pacific, 9:47 Mountain, 10:47 Central, 11:47 Eastern, 12:47 p.m. Atlantic) quitting Time. Sunday the 1st realized 6:38 a.m. Hawaiian-Aleutian Standard (2:38 Chamorro, 5:38 Samoa, 8:38 Alaska, 9:38 Pacific, 10:38 Mountain, 11:38 Central, 12:38 p.m. Eastern, 1:38 Atlantic) sun-rising. That sun set at 5:40 p.m. Hawaiian-Aleutian Standard (1:40 Chamorro, 4:40 Samoa, 7:40 Alaska, 8:40 Pacific, 9:40 Mountain, 10:40 Central, 11:40 Eastern, 12:40 p.m. Atlantic) Time.

Late 17th-century, early 18th-century rulers of Oahu island afforded Kawelo a Maihunalii, as kite-flying hero and as cousinly relative of traditional rulers of Kauai island, a shoreline heiau (from Hawaiian heiau, “temple”) about the Kamaile area. The Milky Way galaxy illuminates easterly, northerly, southerly with the planets Jupiter easterly, Saturn (Hawaiianized i’a, “fish”; ka’āwela; ma kulu, “through [liquid, especially water] drop”) southwesterly.

‘Imiloa December 2024 Sky Watch jubilates joyous journeys of Kawelo’s Kite Kalupeakawelo as central llumination of Kekemapa (Hawaiianized “December”) moonrise- to moonset-illuminated, sunset- to sunrise-darkened skies.

The southern-ensconced planet Jupiter of four binocular-viewable moons and Saturn (Hawaiianized Ka’āwela; ma kulu, “drop of water”) of telescope-viewable rings keep evening and night skies light-kindled.

Kawelo’s Kite Kalupeakawelo lodges centrally in the evening and night skies all month even as some Kite-linked stars lounge central-north and others central-east, central-south and central-west. ‘Iwakelii manifests north-northeastward in ‘Ākau and Ko’olau horizons even as Manōkalanipō and Pi’ilani mobilize eastward in Hikina and Pi’ikea moors southeastward in Malanai and Hema horizons. Kāmōī nestles north-northwestward in ‘Ākau and Ho’olua horizons even as Kākuhīhewa and Keawe, then Kūkaniloko respectively niche westward in Hema, southwest-southward in Kona and Hema horizons.

‘Imiloa December 2024 Sky Watch observes Kawelo’s Kite Kalupeakawelo through Kawelo’s eight stars and such “night-owl” night-sky objects as solar-system moons and planets and Milky-Way stars.

All ‘ākau (“north”), ko’olau (“north[east], windward”) and ho’olua (“north[west]”), hikina (“east”) and komohana (“west”), hema (“south”), malanai (“south”) and kona (“southwest”) stars pair with Unitedstatesian patterns.

Manōkalanipō (“shark the heavenly night['s]”), Kākuhīhewa (“chart mistakenly”), Pi’ilani (“climbing heaven[ward]”) and Keawe (“the bearer”) qualify as Great Square of Pegasus’ Alpheratz, Scheat, Algenib and Markab. Their Kawelo’s-Kite companions southward and southwestward, Pi’ikea (“becoming [day]light”) and Kūkaniloko (“to anchor sound within”), reside where mainland Unitedstatesians render them respectively as Diphda and Fomalhaut. Wednesday the 4th, Friday the 6th, Sunday the 8th, Thursday the 26th and Friday the 27th perhaps suggest stellar sightings what with non-cloudy, non-rainy, sunny days.

Geminids meteor shower-teeming Friday the 13th and Saturday the 14th perhaps transmit likewisedly tempting night-sky transformations for Kawelo’s Kite Kalupeakawelo during ‘Imiloa December 2024 Sky Watch.

Ancient Hawaiians acclaimed and modern traditional Hawaiians acclaim Kawelo a Maihunalii as late 17th-century, early 18th-century chief, hero, kitist of Kauai island and of Kawelo’s Kite Kalupeakawelo asterism. Chiefly status and family history accorded Kawelo residential lands on Kauai island even as cousinly status to hereditary rulers accorded him residential lands on Oahu. The present-day Kolekole Pass (from Hawaiian kole, “raw [or rare-cooked] meat” as adjective and “rawness” and “red soil” as noun) accounted for his residential lands there. It accounts, in the 20th and the 21st centuries, for the annual Kolekole Pass Half Marathon at Schofield Barracks just down Kolekole Road. Kawelo adored athletic activities generally and kite-flying, surfing and wrestling specifically. Area residents of Kolekole Pass perhaps affirm that athleticism in such athletic activities as the aforementioned annual half marathon; "Lt.
