Pueo Hawaiian Short-Eared Owls and Hawaii Five-0's He Kama Na Ka Pueo

Summary: The offspring of an owl, if pueo Hawaiian short-eared owls, on Hawaii Five-0 episode He Kama Na Ka Pueo April 12, 2019, are auspicious for all Hawaiians.

The Hawaii Five-0 active police procedural television series episode He Kama Na Ka Pueo: Offspring of an Owl April 12, 2019, associates abandoned children, anonymous parents and auspicious pueo Hawaiian short-eared owls.
Director Jerry Levine and writers Matt Wheeler and David Wolkove build Season 9's 21st episode around moolelo (stories) about kinolau (physical births) of 'aumākua (ancestral spirits). The series' 214th episode overall calls up ancient traditional Hawaiian culture's ancestral guardian spirits as characteristic conduits of comfort and courage against catastrophe, challenges and confusion. Andrew Bloxam (Sept. 22, 1801-Feb. 2, 1878) discovered pueo Hawaiian short-eared owls while Admiral George Byron (March 8, 1789-March 1, 1868) docked H.M.S. Blonde in Hawaii.
The Hawaiian episode May 4, 1825-July 18, 1825, enabled King Kamemeha II's (1797?-July 14, 1864) and Queen Kamāmalu's (May 20, 1819-July 8, 1824) entombment in Hawaii.

Measles felled the royal couple in England, from which the H.M.S. Blonde followed a westward tack across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans to Maui and O'ahu.
Maximum 13-year life cycles give sexually mature female pueo Hawaiian short-eared owls year-round breeding opportunities, albeit especially between March and June, and 26- to 29-day incubations. Fathers-to-be have guarding and hunting duties whereas mothers-to-be have brooding and incubating duties in feather- and grass-lined, ground-out, 9- to 12-inch (22.86- to 30.48-centimeter) diameter nests. One-plus broods of three to six elliptical, non- to semi-glossy, smooth, white, 1.58- by 1.22-inch (40- by 31-millimeter) eggs involve two-plus day laying and hatching intervals.
Altricial (helpless, from Latin altrix, "nourisher") pueo Hawaiian short-eared owls juggle buff-tinged white undersides, buff upper-sides, dark-bordered tails and wings and bare-patched backs of leg joints.

Nestling pueo Hawaiian short-eared owls keep short, soft, thick down everywhere except their claws and know partial independence as 12- to 18-day-olds in nearby thick vegetation.
Physically semi-independent Asio flammeus sandwichensis (from Latin asiō, "horned owl"; flamma, "fire"; -eus, "made of"; and sandwichensis, "Sandwich Islander"), launch first flights as 22- to 28-day-olds. They manage complete independence as 60-day-olds and buoyant, hovering, light, soaring flights over fields, forests, grasslands, marshlands, park-lands and shrub-lands at sea-level to 8,038.06-foot (2,450-meter) altitudes. They net brown-mottled, large, round heads; brown, round, white-framed faces; short ear tufts; yellow eyes; black eye-rings; dark-streaked white breasts; white bellies; and dark-barred white under-wings.
Pueo Hawaiian short-eared owls offer buff-mottled brown backs with pale-spotted sides; black-tipped, buff-mottled upper-wings with dark-patched tips and buff-orange-yellow outer-wing patches; and buff-white legs and feet.

Pueo Hawaiian short-eared owls possess 13.39- to 16.14-inch (34- to 41-centimeter), 11.46- to 13.23-ounce (325- to 375-gram) bodies and 2.95- to 3.61-foot (0.9- to 1.1-meter) wingspans.
Sixteen-note, three-second hoo-hoo-hoo courtship calls and muted chee-ow barks qualify as vocalizations for otherwise silent insect- and small bird- and mammal-questing, non-screeching pueo Hawaiian short-eared owls. Pueo Hawaiian short-eared owls resist avian malaria (Plasmodium relictum) and avian pox (Poxvirus avium), not light pollution, sick owl syndrome or small Indian mongooses (Herpestes auropunctatus). Agro-industrialism, collisions, pesticides and predation suggest endangered status on O'ahu and scaled-down sightings in upcountry Maui, on Lāna'i and over Big Island highways 190 and 200.
Advice tracing children unacknowledged by fathers to talismanic Pueo Hawaiian short-eared owls, such as Aloha Animal Hospital's Sunshine and Honolulu Zoo's Makamai, toasts entertaining angels unawares.
