The Hawaii Five-0 2010 active police procedural television series episode He Lokomaika'i Ka Manu O Kaiona: Kind Is the Bird of Kaiona April 13, 2018, alludes to talismanic Hawaiian 'iwa great frigatebirds.
Director Bryan Spicer and writers Rob Hanning and Seth O'Reilly bring an 'ōlelo a'o (proverb)  about patron birds of lost travelers into Season 9's 20th episode. The series' 188th episode overall concerns a cached uranium deposit that can contribute to dirty bombs and that causes federal and Hawaii Five-0 task force collaborations. Hawaii Five-0 task force consultant Jerry Ortega (Jorge Garcia) initially demonstrates the deplorable directionlessness that demands divine Kaiona's (from Hawaiian kai, "ocean" and ona, "attractive") intervention.
Divine Kaiona of the 4,025.59-foot- (1227-meter-) high Ka'ala (the awakening) Mountain in the Wai'anae (water [with] mullet) Range, O'ahu, ensures that journeys end at expected destinations.

Perhaps Kaiona's talismanic seabird figures in Jerry, Hawaii Five-0 Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) and federal agent Catherine Rollins (Michelle Borth) finishing their round-trip mission.
The Fregatidae (from Greek άφρακτος ναυς, "undefended ship" and -ειδής, -eidés, "-like") family member gets one one- or two-egg brood from breeding seasons December through September. Fathers-to-be harvest dry grasses, sticks and twigs for mothers-to-be to hone into lined depressions and platform nests with 10- to 15-inch (25.4- to 38.1-centimeter) outer diameters. Fifty-plus-day incubations of semi-elliptical, thin-shelled, white 2.68- by 1.81-inch (68- by 46-millimeter) eggs and 150- to 480-day instructions of hatchlings, nestlings and fledglings involve both parents.
'Iwa great frigatebirds juggle 1.5 years of 25-plus-year life cycles as helplessly naked hatchlings, white-downed nestlings, full-feathered 140-day-olds, fledged 150-day-olds and ocean-dispersed, self-feeding 10- to 18-month-olds.

'Iwa great frigatebirds, known as Fregata minor palmerstoni (for Henry Temple, 2nd Viscount Palmerston, Dec. 4, 1739-April 17, 1802), keep rust-marked, white-headed, white-throated, white-breasted juvenile years.
Physically and sexually mature five- to 10-year-olds log big black eyes; black-feathered heads, pointed wings and deep-forked tails; black-blue-gray hook-ended beaks and four-toed, pink-red, webless-footed legs. Larger females manifest upper-ranging 81- to 91-inch (205.74- to 231.14-centimeter) wingspans, 34- to 43-inch (86.36- to 109.22-centimeter) lengths and 2.6- to 3.2-pound (1.18- to 1.45-kilogram) weights. They net red-ringed eyes and white-feathered throats and breasts and note the drumming, rattling, whirling calls and inflated red throat pouches of bill-clattering, iridescent-feathered, mate-seeking males.
Hawaiian 'iwa great frigatebirds, observed in 1789 by Johann Gmelin (Aug. 8, 1748-Nov. 1, 1804), obtain flying fish and surfacing jellyfish, squid and turtles as food.

Hawaiian 'iwa great frigatebirds possess their Hawaiian name as purported thieves of stored food and swallowed food regurgitated during the former's soaring, swooping, turning, twisting pursuits.
Maximum 50-mile (80.47-kilometer) and 5,000-mile (8.046.72-kilometer) quests respectively queue up as home ranges for large, overlapping Hawaiian colonies and nonstop migrations to Micronesian and Philippine islands. Henri Weimerskirch revealed 'iwa cloud-riding 16-foot (4.88-meter) thermal updraft rises per second to freezing two- to five-mile (3,218.69- to 8,046.72-meter) elevations for high-intensity, low-energy, non-stop flights. The Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique ornithologist states that "Airplanes do not like to enter into large cumulus clouds, and yet frigate birds do it."
Perhaps the tides tossing Adam Noshimuri's (Ian Anthony Dale) half-sister Noriko (Susan Park) ashore turned synchronistically with seaward Hawaiian 'iwa great frigatebirds tolling tough times landward.

Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin), federal agent Catherine Rollins (Michelle Borth) and Eddie, Steve's adopted drug-detection police dog, reset at an investigation's end with food and fun over a picnic table at Kamekona Tupuola's (Taylor Wily) Shrimp Truck with Hawaii Five Task Force members Adam Noshimuri (Ian Anthony Dale), Jerry Ortega (Jorge Garcia), Junior Reigns (Beulah Koale) and Tani Rey (Meaghan Rey) in CBS TV's Hawaii Five-0 season 8, episode 20, He Lokomaika'i Ka Manu O Kaiona (Kind Is the Bird of Kaiona): CBS Hawaii Five-0 episode 8.20 promotional photo, via SpoilerTV April 13, 2018
