Five-0 Hawaiian Rain Gardens Not Made Prisoner by the Reign of the Rain

Summary: Hawaiian rain gardens are absent from Hawaii Five-0's Ho'Opi 'Ia E Ka Noho Ali'l A Ka Ua Feb. 15, 2019, and never made prisoner by the reign of the rain.

Wahikuli Wayside Park's rain garden of native plants was installed March 2013; interpretive sign was installed Dec. 18, 2013; a National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Coral Reef Conservation Program grant funded the design, technical expertise and balance of materials for the Hui o Ko'olaupoko (HOK) project; Honoapiilani Highway, Lahaina, West Maui: County of Maui @countyofmaui, via Facebook Feb. 14, 2014

Accurately assembled Hawaiian rain gardens never are made prisoner by the reign of the rain on Hawaii Five-0 2010 episode Ho'Opio 'Ia E Ka Noho Ali'l A Ka Ua Feb. 15, 2019.
Director Karen Gaviola and writer Rob Hanning build the rain-borne 'ōlelo a'o ("advice") into Season 9's 15th episode, the Hawaii Five-0 2010 series' 208th episode overall. The ancient Hawaiians created 200-plus rain-related words to convey affected areas, arrival and departure angles and times, event duration and intensity and particle colors and trajectories. Genie Alvarado's online descriptions designate respectively distinct 'Apuakea, Ka-'ele-loli, Kūkala-hale, Līlī-lehua, Po'o-lipilipi and 'Ula-lena rains on O'ahu at Ko'olau-poko, Makiki, Honolulu, Pālolo, Kalihi and Mount Ka'ala.
Alvarado respectively employs Hā'ao and Maka-lau-koa, Ki'o-wao and Wa'ahila, Kuahine and Wa'ahila, Pō'ai-hala and Pō'ai-hale rains on O'ahu at Nu'uanu, Nu'uanu Valley, Mānoa Valley and Kaha-lu'u.

Perhaps confidential informant and food industry entrepreneur Kamekona Tupuola (Taylor Wily) alone among the Hawaii Five-0 task force members finds Hawaiian rain names on O'ahu familiar.
Officer Junior Reigns (Beulah Koale) got Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett's (Alex O'Loughlin) car washed without first gauging which Hawaiian rains gave gleaming results without surface runoff. Captain Lou Grover (Chi McBride) hits par on the Alai Wai golf course where fertilizers, pesticides and treated water, not Hawaiian rains, herald further surface runoff. Inspecting breached walls, broken glass and trampled grass from two home invasions perhaps inches Steve toward non-organic intrusions and treated irrigation that inspire more surface runoff.
Polluted surface runoff journeys into aerated, moist, well-drained, well-vegetated soils when Alai Wai, Hawaii Five-0 headquarters' and McGarrett lawns juggle Hawaiian rains into Hawaiian rain gardens.

Hui o Ko'olaupoko, permanent 501 (c) 3 non-profit since 2007 as successor to Kailua Bay Advisory Council, keeps dwnloadable and hard-copy Hawai'i Residential Rain Garden Manuals.
Hawaiian rain gardens lead Hawaiian rains away from downspouts and driveways for evaporation into air, infiltration into soil and overflow into storm drains within 30 hours. They maintain 0.25-plus-inch (0.64-plus-centimeter) hourly infiltrations at 4- and 10-foot (1.22- and 3.05-meter) distances from crawl spaces, driveways and slabs and from basements and wall tops. Infiltration rates and, from roof square footage divided by number of gutter downspouts, sizing factors net minimum 20-square-foot- (1.86-square-meter-) long, 4.5-foot- (0.42-meter-) wide Hawaiian rain gardens.
Hawaiian rain gardens observe maximum slope gradients of 10 percent and 3:1 horizontal and vertical relationships, such as 27-inch- (68.58-centimeter-) wide, 9-inch- (22.86-centimeter-) deep final shapes.

Three-plus-inch (7.2-plus-centimeter) diameter pipes at 4-plus-inch (10.16-plus-centimeter) depths or 2-plus-inch (5.08-plus-centimeter) rock-lined trenches with maximum gradients of 2 percent pilot Hawaiian rains into Hawaiian rain gardens.
'Ākulikuli (seaside shoreline sea-purslane, Sesuvium portulacastrum) and white hibiscus (koki'o ke'oke'o, Hibiscus arnottianus) respectively queue up at inlet trenches and for accent in Hawaiian rain gardens. Fish poison plant ('ākia, Wikstroemia uva-ursi), fishbone narrow sword fern (kupukupu, Nephrolepis cordifolia) and white wild leadwort ('ilie'e, Plumbago zeylanica) reinforce ridged berms and sloping sides. Beggarticks (ko'oko'olau, Bidens torta), marsh cyperus ('ahu'awa, Mariscus javanicus) and O'ahu sedge (Carex wahuensis) survive maximum and minimal Hawaiian rains that sustain Hawaiian rain garden basins.
Hawaiian rains trickle polluted particles ideally through 3-inch- (7.62-centimeter-) high mulch and 2-inch- (5.08-centimeter-) high compost in Hawaiian rain gardens, not traumatically into freshwater and seawater.
