Perhaps ancient associations of blue-violet to purple amethysts with such Greek wine grape varieties as Agiorgitiko red wine grapes apply to the Elementary procedural drama series episode Sober Companions June 11, 2018.

Director Seith Mann and writers Robert Doherty, Jason Tracey and Kelly Wheeler bear amethysts as crime-scene props in the sixth season's seventh episode, series' 127th overall. Michael Rowan (Desmond Harrington) composes a creepy crime scene of trophy clothes, jewelry and shoes, collected from his previous victims, on Maddie Williams' (Comfort Clinton) corpse. He distracts Hannah Gregson (Liza J. Bennett), Maddie's roommate and Captain Tommy Gregson's (Aidan Quinn) daughter, with a coffee date for which he does not show.

Elementary episode Give Me the Finger June 4, 2018, finds Hannah an alcoholic who files, like Michael and Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller), into meetings.

Amethysts (from Greek ἀμέθυστος, améthustos, "not drunk") and Agiorgitiko red wine grapes go together in legends from Nemea in the northeastern Peloponnese region of southern Greece. Iron and manganese compounds hone amethyst's purple colors somewhat similar to, but lighter than, Agiorgitiko (Αγιωργίτικο, from Αη Γιωργίτικο, Ai Giorgitiko, "Saint George") red wine grapes. Legend invests Agiorgitiko red wine grapes with blue-violet, red-purple colors from the Nemean lion blood that inundated dry, infertile soils after half-god, half-human Hercules killed him.

Legend and traditional customs join Agiorgitiko, Hercules' Blood, Mavro Nemeas (μαύρο Νεμέα, "Black Nemea") and St. George's wine from Agiorgitiko red wine grapes and amethyst goblets.

Agiorgitiko red wine grapes know sprouting, blossoming, maturing, harvesting schedules between March and April, at the end of May, between July and September, and in September.

Agiorgitiko red wine grapes look bunched, juicy and round in their florescent, waxen skins that lodge blue-, purple-, red-laden, water-soluble anthocyan pigments and aromatic phenol compounds. Black-blue, blue-purple, red-blue, red-purple fat-crusted, velvet-skinned Agiorgitiko red wine grapes manifest blueberry, cherry, chocolate, plum, sour cherry and spice scents and tastes and sometimes tobacco scents. Concentrated flavors in less numerous grapes per bunch necessitate average yearly rainfall and temperatures at 26.58 inches (675 millimeters) and 60.44 degrees Fahrenheit (15.8 degrees Celsius).

Low-altitude, mid-altitude and high-altitude vineyards through 2,952.76-foot (800-meter) elevations offer high-yield grapes and sweet wines, mid-yield grapes and acidic wines, and low-yield grapes and dry wines.

Fungal infections from botrytis bunch rot, downy mildew and powdery mildew plague the disease-prone, heat-tolerant, small-clustered, thick-skinned Agiorgitiko red wine grapes that proliferate in low-altitude vineyards.

Potassium deficiency and water stress qualify as environmental stresses for Agiorgitiko red wine grapes, whose soil pHs queue up neutral, semi-acidic ranges between 5.5 and 6.0. Agiorgitiko red wine grapes resist fungal infections, nutrient deficiencies and water stress at cooler, higher altitudes even though all elevations remain within Nemea's designated wine region. European Union Regulation 2081/92 stands behind Nemea as protected designation of origin (Oeni Onomasias Proelefseos Anoteras Poiotitas, OPAP) for vineyards sustaining only Agiorgitiko red wine grapes.

Perhaps Michael thinks of "fair to middlin'" but cunning Hannah as treading legally once her "above-average" captain father takes away amethysts and corpse, talismanic no longer.
