Mango Trees Appeal to Kakanava Koels and Buddhist Monuments at Sanchi

Mango trees, as fruiting, nestable, roostable areas and for cultural associations, appeal to Kakanava koels and to Buddhist monuments at Sanchi Hill in central Raisen District, central Madhya Pradesh state, central India.

Teak (from Tamil thekku, via Latin tectona) forests brandish Anacardiaceae (from Greek ἀνά, “on" and καρδία, “heart”; and Latin -āceae, “resembling”) cashew, pistachio, sumac family members. Madhya Pradesh (from Sanskrit मध्य, “middle” and प्रदेश, “region”), not necessarily teak forests, claims such Anacardiaceae family members as mango (aam locally, from Sanskrit आम) trees. Teak forests date from before Kakanava (from Sanskrit काक, “crow” and नव, “caw-caw”) cliff and town and Buddhist monuments at Sanchi (from Sanskrit नव, “quietism”) developed.

Such Anacardiaceae family members as almondette (achar locally, Buchanania latifolia scientifically) and Indian ash (moyan, Lannea coromandelica) trees emerged alongside teak (sagon, Tectona grandis) woody plants.

Asian koels (Eudynamys scolopaceus) fancy mango trees even as they follow Indian house (Corvus splendens) and jungle (Corvus culminatus) crows favoring trees found in teak forests.

The poison ivy (Toxicodendron radicans) relative germinates from 1.58- to 2.76-inch- (4- to 7-centimeter-) long, 1.18- to 1.58-inch- (3- to 4-centimeter-) wide, 0.39-inch- (1-centimeter-) thick seeds. A 0.04- to 0.08-inch- (1- to 2-millimeter-) thick coat houses the one fibrous- or hairy-surfaced, flattened, multiple- or single-segmented, oblong to oval seed in fruit centers. Fleshy, orange-yellow, spicy-sweet pulp inhabits oblong, oval or round, 1.76-ounce to 4.41-plus-pound (50-gram to 2-plus-kilogram) fruits identified as drupes (from Latin drūpa, from Greek δρύππᾱ, “olive”).

Perhaps Kakanava koels, away from Buddhist monuments at Sanchi, join other populations around Raisen (royal residence, from Sanskrit राजन्, “king” and वासिनी, “abiding”) District mango trees.

Pollinating ants, bees, flies and wasps kindle orange- to red-blushed, green-white to yellow fruits, with bat-, bird-, mammal-dispersed seeds, from nectar-rich flowers blooming January through March.

Branch-end, maximally 23.62-inch- (60-centimeter-) long panicles (from Latin pānicula [from Greek πῆνος, “web” and πηνίον, “bobbin”], “bobbin-wound threadlet”) lodge 0.19- to 0.39-inch (5- to 10-millimeter) flowers. Their fragrant, pale green, pink or red flowers each manifest four to five each of downy, oval sepals; downy, lance-shaped, oblong petals; and fleshy, nectar-bearing lobes. Every female-male flower, with pistils, and male-only pistil-free flower net one to two sterile and two to three fertile stamens and one ovary with side-lodged style.

Alternate-occurring, 0.39- to 4.72-inch- (1- to 12-centimeter-) high leafstalks occupied brown-gray branches of mango trees, always fissure-barked lengthwise, around Kakanava koels and Buddhist monuments at Sanchi.

Their 3.28-foot- (1-meter-) deep feeder, fibrous surface roots and two- to four-branched, 19.68-foot- (6-meter-) deep taproot prefer semi-acidic, neutral, semi-alkaline soil pH levels 5.5 to 7.5.

The Buddhism- (from Sanskrit बुद्ध, “awakened”) and koel-quested trees queue 50- to 100-foot (15- to 30-meter) heights and 3.28- to 9.84-plus-foot (1- to 3-plus-meter) trunk diameters. Annual means reveal 29.53- to 98.42-inch (750- to 2,500-millimeter) rainfall and 53.6 to 107.6 degrees Fahrenheit (12 and 42 degrees Celsius), sea-level through 3,937.008-foot (1,200-meter) altitudes. The blacksmith Cunda’s (from Sanskrit चुण्डा, “small reservoir, small well”) mango trees in ancient eastern India at Pava, Malla Republic, sheltered Gautama Buddha (624 BCE?-544 BCE?).

Mango trees, though not among Buddhist monuments at Sanchi Hill, transmit taste tendencies of Kakanava koels and tranquil times for the 80-year-old, terminally ill 28th Buddha.

Saros series 126 opened March 10, 1179, with a partial solar eclipse. The series will close with a partial solar eclipse on Saturday, May 3, 2459. Alabama and New York add to Bakerhaven traffic and allow three deaths in Dead Man’s Puzzle, 10th mystery in the Puzzle Lady series authored by Parnell Hall (Oct. 31, 1934-Dec. 15, 2020).

Bakerhaven businesses on the town outskirts bring together born and bred Bakerhavenites such as Police Chief Dale Harper and Manhattan-born, Manhattan-bred Bakerhavenites such as Cora Felton. Car-friendly connections from New York, into Connecticut, to Bakerhaven close to Danbury call for such commercial constructions as Bakerhaven mall conveniently catering to city-limit, country-style motels. Fred Goldman, as possible Overmeyer heir, and Dennis Pride, as Cora’s ex-nephew-in-law and Sherry Carter Grant’s first husband, dwell in the same motel on Route 9.

Cindy Barrington, Harmon Overmeyer and Alan and Ellen Weston, as possible Overmeyer heirs, and George Brooks, as Overmeyer neighbor, end up at another four different motels.

The Crowley bed and breakfast, the Johnson and the Mercer subsequently furnish a room respectively to Harmon as possible Overmeyer heir, to George and to Snively.

Mall shoppers and motel lodgers go to the nearby Country Kitchen, whose bar gets as customers Cora and Dennis and whose restaurant gets as customer Harmon. Bakerhaven mall harbors among its Burger King and McDonald’s customers Cora and Fred, among its Starbucks customers Cora and among its Walmart customers Alan and Ellen. Cora, like Bakerhaven inhabitants, itinerates to the convenience store 15 minutes from the Carter/Felton/Grant residence and the gas station between Cushman’s Bake Shop and Holcomb Road.

Perhaps Harmon journeys the farthest of the six possible Overmeyer heirs, from San Antonio, Texas, to Bakerhaven, Connecticut, by way of Chicago and then New York.

Bakerhaven locals know the Brooks Colonial two-story, the Overmeyer cabin, then the Arlington house as the first residences after left-turning from Main Street onto Holcomb Road.

Possible Overmeyer heirs perhaps line up with Bakerhaven locals at Mary Cushman’s located near Bakerhaven Courthouse, Bakerhaven Police Station opposite Bakerhaven Library and Bakerhaven Town Hall. They meet Cora after 3:00 a.m. at the latter, whose parking lot Dale and Bakerhaven Police Officers mark as a murder scene for the third victim. They perhaps navigate downtown Bakerhaven’s side streets for the pizza parlor below attorney Becky Baldwin’s one-room Baldwin Law Office and town outskirts for the Chinese takeout.

Possible Overmeyer acquaintances and heirs from Alabama, New York and Texas, like librarian Edith Potter’s son Jimmy and takeout deliverers operating bicycles, never obstruct Bakerhaven traffic.

Cindy and Fred perhaps pursue peregrinations as pressured as Jimmy pedaling around photographing possible heirs, passing Cora’s disposable camera to Fotomart and presenting Cora Fotomart-processed prints.

Perhaps Dennis questioning George quitting work for the Times Square subway to Greenwich Village’s Sheridan Square, 10th and 4th Streets and Charles Street quickens similar pressures. Internet technology results in burned-down Rawley’s Hardware and Sporting Goods and closed Mobile police records not requiring Cora and Dale physically in West Virginia and Alabama. The Bakerhaven High School science teacher sending a technical assistant who situates everything in computer settings and a stock-pooling agreements never stop Cora solving three murders.

Perhaps Bakerhaven Hospital Morgue transfers Herbert Overmeyer to Kelly’s Funeral Home before Cora’s Masai Mara-honeymooning housemates tackle New York, then Bakerhaven traffic in Dead Man’s Puzzle.
