Konane assuages, like chess on Magnum's Blood in the Water crime action drama episode March 25, 2019, and unlike thefts on A World of Trouble May 1, 2020, re-aired Aug. 14, 2020.
First-season 19th-episode director Karen Gaviola and writer Gene Hong and second-season 18th-episode director Peter Weller and writers Tera Tolentino and Neil Tolkin broach yacht- and extinguisher-burging. Robin’s Nest property majordomo (from Latin māior, “main [steward]” and domus, “household”) Juliet Higgins (Perdita Weeks) convalesces with chess and classical music after catching a bullet. Kalohe Olu (Chelsea Kurtz) deems stolen computers and fire extinguishers decent, defensible donations for Wahiawa (from Hawaiian wahi, “space”; a, “of”; wā, “shouting people”) Elementary School.
The ancient Hawaiian board game konane entailed two alternate-positioned, different-colored, same-numbered playing-piece sets for two players to exchange capture moves until one ended without playable motions.

Chiseled, sanded rocks and house flooring versus flat-topped boulders and level ground functioned as respectively human-made and natural flat surfaces for facilitating konane board games anciently.
Ancient Hawaiians gouged even-numbered, shallow holes or sloping indentations into open ground or onto rocky, stony upper-sides for respectively immobile and stationary or transportable game surfaces. They honed sharp-edged, two- to six-foot- (0.61- to 1.83-meter-) long screwpine leaves into durable lauhala (from Hawaiian lau, “leaf” and pūhala, “screwpine [Pandanus tectorius] tree”) mats. Dark- and light-colored playing pieces inhabited dark and light bark-, flower-, fruit-, leaf-, root-, -soil-dyed squares in American checkerboard-, English draughtsboard-like patterns on dried, tight-woven mats.
Black lava and white coral journeyed over rocky, stony, woven surfaces or over surface soils as playing pieces with individual diameters under one inch (2.54 centimeters).

Konane (from Hawaiian konene, “to jump, move, take up quickly” and nane, “riddle”) knew few rules other than keeping jumps as capture moves horizontally or vertically.
Players launching black pieces, labeled ‘ili ‘ele’ele (“skin black”), ‘ili’ili ‘ele’ele (“pebble black”), ka ‘ele’ele (“the black”) or ‘ele (“black”), led from one of four locations. They moved one of two pebbles or lava pieces from one of two black lua (“pit”) squares at board center, monikered piko (from Hawaiian piko, “navel”). Or they nudged one of two pebbles or lava pieces from either one of two black lua squares at either one of two of four corners.
Black options obligated white coral or pebbles, as ‘ili kea (“skin white”), ‘ili’ili ke’oke’o (“pebble white”), ke ke’oke’o (“the white”) or kea (“white”), to neighboring-piece removal.

The third play passed one black piece over all, one, some white positioned horizontally or vertically straight-lined north, east, south or west between two empty squares.
Black- and white-piece players respectively qualified for odd- and even-numbered quests, always as one, non-diagonal holo (“travel”) capture, or as consecutive, non-diagonal, one-direction kaholo (“jump”) captures. Winning players, regaled as ai honua (from Hawaiian ‘ai honua, “to eat land”), retained realizable relocations over make (“dead”) opposite-colored pieces between two empty lua squares. Fourteen- by 17-inch (35.56- by 43.18-centimeter) papamu (from Hawaiian papa, “board” and mū, “executioner”) seen by Captain James Cook (Nov. 7, 1728-Feb. 14, 1779) stretched sessions.
Konane as 14-row, 238-square papamu and today’s shorter, squarer, swifter boards perhaps respectively tempt MI6-trained Juliet as much as chess and troubled Kalohe more than theft.
